āž” Quail Hatch AlongšŸ„š

Can you cite the sources of this method? All the literature I have read or seen, says 'pointy end' down. Just curious!
The information is in Hatching Eggs 101 by @Sally Sunshine . It is in the section about storing methods. It is an alternate method to use if you need to store eggs for longer than the normally recommended 7 to 10 days.

I just read the study. It does not say what you imply it says. There is an almost 8% difference in favor of small end down (SED) storage. Only experiment 1 pertains to common storage at room temperature, and what it says is that there isn't much of a difference between SED and small end up (SEU) IF you don't rotate the eggs. If you rotate the eggs, small end down is preferable.

If the eggs are stored for the normal 7 to 10 days, it is preferrable to store them pointy side down and turn them an odd number of times daily.

Storing pointy side up is for longer terms of storage. Turning eggs stored pointy side up was not shown to improve hatchability. Eggs stored pointy side up should be inside an enclosure whether it is a plastic bag or a cooler. This is to reduce moisture loss.

Both methods work best if the storage temperature is around 60 degrees F. A humidity of around 60% is also beneficial.

Maybe what should be said is: there is no benefit to storing pointy side up. In most cases, it is a detriment.

Lucky!!!!!! You got scarlet fee eggs šŸ˜µpictures required!!!!!!
5 out of 6 scarlet fees made it to lockdown, and all 5 have hatched already šŸ˜
