10 Baby Wood Ducks (1st thought they were Mallards)

Starter mash is a great suggestion. Thanks! They are eating the finely smashed hard boiled egg and mealy worm, and I'm happy to see them finally eat.

What about that getting into water for swim (this time they just got their feet wet, splashed, and drank)?
Probably 4” of lukewarm water would be good. Just watch them for water logging.
Wow, they do look like Wood ducks! They don't have the yellow breasts like Mallard or Muscovy. <but I'm a duck newbie>
Lol they are very alike

One of the rescuers is our town's wildlife/animal person (not sure of exact title). She also works full-time at a shelter and part-time at a turtle rescue.
Did this person advise all involved that....
"Wood ducks are protected by The Migratory Bird Treaty Act that makes it illegal for anyone to take, possess, purchase, import, export, transport, sell, purchase, barter, or offer for sale, purchase, or barter any migratory bird, or the parts, nests, or eggs of such a bird except under the terms of a valid permit issued pursuant to federal regulations. Thank you for this great info. There has never been any question but to return these ducklings back to the wild, even when we thought they were mallards. There's fresh water nearby, and I have a friend who is a bird photographer who has already advised me of fresh water ponds on our island where we can find other wood ducks. My main goal at this time is to keep them healthy and get them to the point of release.

Also, nearby wildlife rescue people were advised, and I was told that they didn't have an inch of space available for these ducklings. Our town's wildlife person stopped by today to check on them (same person who was at the rescue).
