12 chick minimums at the feed store

It would be interesting if that feed store keeps it up (could you pm me who-always good to know where I could get just 1). My feed store guy said a West Lebanon feed store got in trouble last year. He did not mention if there were fines, a slap on the hand or what. He said an inspector just shows up and goes through all the paperwork.

Here in Pierce County the minimum is 6 chicks. I only wanted 2 or 3, so I put an add on Craigslist asking if anyone wanted to 'split a 6-pack' of chicks. I had 3 people answer, and two of them ended up driving out with me and picking up birds. That's how I met my chicken buddies JennsPeeps and herbandteas. Jenn and my BF are going to get some together on Wednesday!

I was just thinking the same thing - 25 chick min in OH at RKO - and straight run I think. No thanks. I don't need 24 roos

There is a six minimum here in lexington as well. It is also illegal to buy or sell dyed chicks like Ideal sells at easter time.

I thought it was an odd law and asked the city about it. I was told they had a problem with pet shops selling the dyed chicks and then the animal shelter ending up with a bunch of chickens and ducks later in the season so they passed the laws to prevent that from happening.

Funny, I ended up with chickens in the yard because the kids next door got two chicks, and then got bored with them when they stopped being all fluffy and small. Maybe the law should be reworded to "12 chicks minimum unless you have a softie for a neighbor."

sounds to me like they should remove the minimum and put an Parent
pet IQ restriction on the chicks.

Ask a few simple questions such as...

Do you think chicks come in blue in real life?
Yes... You Fail... No... Move on to the next question.

Do chicks grow up and stop being odd unnatural colors?
No... You Fail... Yes... Move on to the next question.

When or If your chick grows up, do you:
A: Plan to eat it
B: Plan to throw it out of a moving car
C: Plan to stop feeding it and let it run away
D: Plan to make a home for it, knowing that a chicken requires at least 10 square feet to roam around in. and feed and water. and various other necessities... etc...
E: Don't plan on doing anything with it, because it'll only last a day til the kiddos throw it into the pool.

The correct answers could vary on your beliefs, but I believe B, C, and E would be the most incorrect...

**Anyhooo. that's just me and I could be wrong...

Seems like a very odd law to me. I understand where the basis for it comes from, but so many folks can only have 3 or 4 chickens. What are they suposed to do with the extra 8 or 9 they were forced to buy? It seems like they are creating another bigger problem by such a large minimum.

Why can't it just be a simple age requirement? I mean, seriously... you can vote, smoke, be in the army at 18 and if over 21 drink, but you can't buy under 12 chicks? Makes no sense.

Yes, I'll trust you with a guy and the ability to choose a president of the US, but heaven forbid you have the right to purchase under 12 fuzzy chicks.
