Alright I'm kinda new to this but .....

HOLY MOLEY... You drove 1972 miles for Delaware Eggs? Please tell me... Are they rare or something? you know, Ill go out of my way for my girls but Im not sure Im willing to go 1972 miles out of the way. WOW! good luck with your hatch!

Okay I have your thread locked in now....I can tell you one thing about the BBS eggs that i just noticed...

at Day 10, I had a hard time seeing clearly on a couple of smoky's but on day 12 both my babies were there. They are the two that hatched. So, definitely don't give up them too soon, that girl can fool ya!

Exciting...now I can relive this whole experience again

LOL

PS: about those delaware babies....watch yourself; they are a crafty crew. All over the place, jumping, biting your skin and hanging on to get your attention, crawling in your hand to sleep and fighting for position. You are gonna love them but but they will OWN YOU!

To get nicely bred Delawares that are true to breed standards, yes they are rare. All of the hatcheries are sold out, but hatchery Del's are far from the breed standard. The breed is listed as being endangered, and I think it is due to lack of good breeding stock. I have learned a ton of info from this site, and one thing I learned is that alot of hatchery Del's look like they have been crossed with Columbians, polluting the true Delaware blood, and creating a cross breed. So when the chance comes up to get some nice Del's, grab it!

We are relying heavily on your experience for our hatch. I was glad to hear of your success, :clapand
sad to hear of the problems you had.

Keep us posted on how the little ones are doing as they grow. This is still a very fragile time for them, but with all that they went through, they are fighters!

pffffttt they are fine....they had their first scrambled egg this morning, got to talk to their grandma on the phone and are terrorizing the brooder. Those Delawares...I'm warning ya about them...they are something else.

I was sad to lose those last three...but it happens. It was not their time to be here. I think we solved the puzzle with two of them and that is a relief to better understand.

You two will do fine and have great babies too.

I know how a curious mind works and how the desire for knowledge can be strong. Hats off to you for doing the hard thing in your search for truth. After seeing the good hatchlings it makes one want to love them all the more for being so dang cute!

OK day seven and we seem to be moving in the wrong direction for the BBS Orps
hit.gif

#'s 1,2 from Dusty looked good at day 5 but I cannot see any new development since then. I may have been wrong in my original thought they were developing, but after hearing from Cetawin I will not give up hope on these until day 12.

so of the 14 BBS Orp eggs the only ones I am sure about is #'s 2,5 from Smokey and #'s 1,3 from unknown.

The Deleware eggs are still 23 out of 27 and the only change was #7 which I originally thought had no yolk at all, (small probably pullet egg) I opened to find that it looked scrambled. the yolk was broken which is why I couldn't see it when candling

. The other three that don't look like they are developing I will wait until day 12 before I give up on.
Cyn if these Orps do not develop I may have to drive down there and get some more LOL, so get your cake pan ready
