We candled 8 of the Kentucky Speck eggs, all clear, checked a couple of the Japanese I put in to keep the Speck chicks company, all flourishing. Tonight we'll check the last 3 or 4 rare breed eggs, but I don't have much hope. Looks like our Speck roo wasn't doing his duties long before he got visibly ill.

Don't really want a bunch of Japanese chicks ths late in the season. Oh well, any one around Portland Oregon want Grey Japanese bantams in about 15 days?

Oh I am sorry...if it's any consolation I have a beloved game hen, Evelyn, who lays fairly regularly and i would dearly love to have a chick from her but so far every egg I have incubated from her has candled clear. I know it's not my roo because he's successfully produced embryos in 9/9 of another hen's eggs I put in at the same time.
I feel your pain...
