Buttons are adorable! I tried keeping them in the house for a while. Quail just belong out doors. In a nice big space. Don't have that space. :/ My DH put that poly glass all around the edge to keep the floor clean. Nice cage. I later used it for my canary.
Aww. I seriously cant get over how tiny they are. I look at the coturnix eggs and just think thise are tiny but those oh my goodness lol. That is a nice set up for those little guys. I would try to keep them in the house too but I think they would end up outside eventually because of the smell lol.

There are lots of good looking button quail eggs on Ebay right now. And remember. It's just individuals who sell on Ebay, such as me...I know sometimes people on BYC have had bad experiences with eggs off ebay, but it is the same anywhere. I often get eggs on Ebay and normally they are good sellers. Shipping, of course is always a bit of a problem for eggs.
I used to have button quail. I loved them. Good luck to those looking to hatch them! They are fun to hatch. It's like popcorn in a pan. I used one of those horrible Farm Innovator incubators one time with the little quail. That's the incubator that has a lid that's deeper than the bottom part, so when you take the top off there really are no sides around the egg tray. After the hatch was done, I opened it to get the chicks out and they literally poured out the sides and took off running around the house....like 40 of them!  :gig

Oh my I couldnt even imagine that many just scattering lmao i would have freaked out trying to find them all. I have that incubator haha ill keep that in mind when I go to do them :)

So button quail and their eggs are tinier than Cortinix quail? I can't imagine it either. We raise Cortinix mostly bc they are the only ones I've seen around here for sale.

I thought I found them all until later I heard peeping under the fridge... Also found them in the filter of the brooder because it has 1/2 inch air holes into the air filter and they went right through! They are the size of bumble bees. About half the size of coturnix. Can't put them in chicken wire either. I had over 100 in pens outside with 1/2" wire and eventually lost them all to kingsnakes....

Loved the sounds they make....

Wow that is really tiny. I'd love to see some in person. I'd probably want some:) Do you raise them as pets or food or eggs??

Fans back on as in PM.
Ya know......this is a very colorful thread! Foul of all types, sewing, drawing, cooking, costumes and contest photos! It's nice looking at all of them. For now this hatch due tomorrow is my last for ap a week and a half yayyy. Need a break. Too many trips coming up then settle back in for the ones I put in the bator yesterday

At least they're a decent hatch rate even if I did have to help to the point of exhaustion..........fun exhaustion lol.

Tai I tried making my own aprons from a couple patterns and failed miserably. It kept sliding over on the hen. Your's are gorgeous!

I'm excited for everyone with hatches happening and coming up. I'll post some pics too when my company gets here and settled in. A Chicken Sitter:) and a dog sitter, and.

That makeup for your son is amazing!!!!!!!!!!! Never would I have guessed he was 20
now that you said it, it sure is colorful! !!!

you should have joined us LONG LONG LONG AGO!!! Where OH WHERE have you been!!! we have been waiting for you guys!!! get your hubs on too!!!! We have built many incubators, what have you built? ours are in the signature below! show us yours! what do you have

We haven't built one yet. We have little giant incubators and one from China we got off ebay. I have plans for a large (900 egg) wooden cabinet, insulated with foam board insulation, and using a thermostat for reptile habitats to turn the heat lamps on and off for temp. We also want to build a separate 300 egg hatcher so we can stagger with the incubator. We have enough chickens to hatch at least 900 eggs every 3 weeks if we wanted to. Not that we will, but want to have the option to do so. We plan on selling chicks and hatching eggs this late winter and all through next year. Also turkey poults and turkey hatching eggs.

I just noticed, your in Montgomery where my Mother inlaw is from

-Yeah, sweet home Alabama! Neither DH or I are from Bama, I'm here for college. I'll be moving elsewhere for medical school in a year, then who knows where we will settle down! I'm from Missouri, he is from Louisiana. And my family lives in Florida now. So we have a lot of choices lol.
Free! love it! how do you like it there so far? and for being temp, you have so many ummmm FOWL!!!! OH MY word!!! you will need a HUGE Sunday dinner before you go or else a bunch of moving tractor

I did that too, I hated styro bators with quail lol! thats why the coolers rock with them! ha ha ha.... heck you couldnt even try to unlplug them and flip them over cause of the plastic viewing lids falling out!

Will do. I candled finally again last night. I had two quit.

I used to raise them for pets or aviary birds. And sold lots of hatching eggs too. There are a lot of people who like them in the bottom of their flight cages where they are raising small hookbills like parakeets, cockatiels....the buttons pick up all the fallen seed.

I just set 4 lavender ameracaunas, 1 wheaten ameracauna, and 3 lavender Orpington eggs I received from ray_n_debi. Due to hatch October 22.
I think I messed myself up on the hatches because my daughter turns 8 October 18, we are having her birthday party here at my house (bonfire) on oct 17. I have 104 quail hatching October 15. How am I gonna keep all those people out my brood room? Lol

I'm sorry!!!!! :( How awful!!!!!

Thank you. I just hope none quit during lock down. I had 8 sent to me. Two didn't start at all..so went to 6 pretty quick. Then the two that just quit. Lock down is on Mon.
