I have a 4 week old silkie (hatched Thursday August 3rd) and I was wondering what his/her gender is. Haven't noticed any signs of rooster yet and I'm hoping that's a good sign of a hen. Any help would be appreciated, ty!
cute chick but, silkies cannot be sexed so early. 4-5 mos . is a good time to try BUT, some will not be revealed till they crow or lay eggs. If anyone tells you they can accurately sex them at any age, remember anybody has a 50-50 change of being right, conversely a 50-50 chance of being wrong. I don't consider those good odds when you end up with loads of cockerels.
Thank you. I heard that you can sex them around 4 weeks. But I'm still leaning towards hen but then again there still is a 50-50 chance. Thank you for the help
I agree it's pretty young. I'll take a stab at it and say female for now. Could show rooster signs in a month or three. It seems the nicer quality silkies are the hardest to tell.
