40 Minute Hamburger Buns or Rolls

My first batch of these are cooling right now and my house smells amazing!

We will be having them with pulled pork tonight. They look fantastic and it only took me about 20 minutes to prepare them! Thanks for sharing!

Here is another use for these rolls....

Baked Ham and Cheese Sandwiches

3/4 stick butter
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1/2 tablespoon yellow mustard
1/2 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 tablespoon poppy seeds
1 recipe of 40 minute rolls...(make them small...about 15 rolls... otherwise the bread will overwhelm all the melted goodness)
15 slices honey baked ham...(thinly sliced...quickly sauted, steak is good too)
15 slices Provolone cheese

Preheat oven to 350.

Melt butter in a saucepan and then add the brown sugar, mustard, Worcestershire sauce and poppy seeds.

Brush the bottom of a 9x13 baking dish with some of the glaze mixture. Cut the rolls in half horizontally and brush the inside of each roll with the glaze.

Add a piece of ham and a slice of cheese to each roll. Place the tops on the rolls and place in baking dish. Brush the tops of the rolls with the remaining glaze.

Cover with foil and bake in 350 oven for about 25 minutes.

Since those rolls don't really have any rising time I wonder how they would do to start them in a cold oven?

Nooooooo.... I want you to try it and report back.

I have had some success starting from a cold oven. Sometimes on purpose and sometimes on accident. Last weekend I had my french bread just about ready to go in the oven so I turned it on. Waited 15 minutes for it to preheat, slashed and sprayed the loaves, the oven was dead cold.

I put them in anyway and set the oven to 500, got somewhat more oven spring than I do with a hot oven.

I do have a gas oven that I think is less prone to bottom burning than an electric oven.

I can't tell you how many times I've had that happen to me. Summers here in Texas can be brutal...I have an old gas stove out in my garage that DH put in years ago so I could still bake in the summer time and not heat up the house. Sometimes the pilot will go out and the oven doesn't come on. I've learned the hard way to stand with the oven door opened a crack and wait to see if it comes on before I go back in the house.
