A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Wait do you eat Raccoons?:hmm

Oh and not all white birds hatch out pure white. Some (like white cornish. Not CX) hatch out a silver color and their feathers come in white as snow :D

I have had two 1/4 cx that hatched silver w/yellow .. the Easter one is now white and the Mother's Day KIMG0001 (2).JPG is turning white

Hey everyone, just popping in to update. The woods turkey egg that my neighbor found ended up DIS :( It was fully developed and internally pipped but that was as far as it got. I'm very disappointed. I was excited for that little one

Hey, are any of you guys up? I just found 1 of my turkey poults dead. Missing entire neck, head and 1 wing. I am thinking raccoon. A second turkey was injured. I think she looks worse than she is though. I think it/they were only able to take a big patch of skin off of her head and she has a small wound on one wing. I have brought her inside and the remaining uninjured turkey. I got the injured one to drink some water. I have her loosely wrapped in a towel. I was going to put some blue kote/pick no more on her injury, but it got to close to her eye and seemed to really bother her and she managed to wipe most of it off on the towel. I rinsed her eye, incase any got in it. She and the other turkey are in a large aquarium inside with a red heat lamp on. They have access to food and water.

Anything else I should do?? Anything I need to know about?

Thanks for your input.

Apparently the coon was able to reach up under the metal flashing I had attached to the bottom part of the run and was able to grab the turkeys through the wire. The turkeys hadn't gone in the coop last night or tonight, mostly, I think because 2 of the 4 chickens in that coop are busy trying to show them who is boss. I am going to move them to another coop before I return the 2 turkeys outside. We are also going to beef up the lower sides of the coop with smaller mesh wire and attach the wire flashing better.

The turkeys are a little over 6 weeks old.

Tiny is still a little crooked neck after being treated for one week with Tylan 50. Some improvement, eating well but still feels hot to the touch. I moved him into porch with ac set at 70 degrees, because he seemed to be panting. Can anyone give me an idea of what temperature a turkey should be. ?

Holms.... I also have eaten raccoon. I think it is best smoked like a ham. It is a good meat. I find it less gamy than bear RJ. Bear is such a pain to fix. I try to scrape every ounce of fat off so it requires lots of refrigeration so the fat is easy to work with and it turns runny fast.

Karen, Sorry to hear about your coon attack. I would guess coon too. This is coon attack time.

Tiny, I am with Holm on the panting, the only other thing would be infection causing it pain and fever in which case, it will not live long, I am afraid.

I think we need to declare and all out war on coons! I have been lucky, this year , but I know my time is coming. Maybe the coyote at the end of the pasture has eaten all the coon.

Of course, that means as soon as her pups are older she and they will cause me grief. I never see her when I have a rifle. I am thinking of setting snares for her. Before you all think I am being wantonly destructive, remember her and her pups killed Ethel last year and I lost 14 birds in late June early July to her.

Coffee called she has lost over half her flock to a "grey Fox".. I thought maybe a coyote but she says "grey Fox". She made a rookie error and called the DNR to get permission to kill it. They are sending her a permit....

I tell you SSS. the laws says you can kill an animal that is doing damage. The person she talked to told her that did not apply to a fox....That fox is lucky she lives at Coffee's and not here.....

the only thing that I won't shoot just because you never know where it will end up is a bear... everything else fair game on the property if it can kill my poultry it's a goner. We actually had a bear the next road over yesterday a cop came to let me know since he knows I have poultry which was nice of him... I asked him if it started to attack if I could shoot it and he said "call us but if it is killing your birds take it out" lol
