A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

The 4 penciled babies :) The 5th one is still in the incubator drying off but it hatched pure white so it's probably only going to be semi penciled. I didn't take pictures of the others that hatched. I ended up with9 babies hatched and 3 babies DIS.

I have never seen penciled turkeys! I searched them on internet, they are gorgeous!

And these are Lil and Mister. Lil is Phil's twin sister. Mister is a semi penciled tri colored blue palm. This is not a flattering picture at all but Lil and Mister are the parents these babies :)

I am surprised no one has responded on the FB genetics page, at least a few minutes ago no comments
Sometimes they are all over it right away

Wednesday morning I caught one of the young toms trying to rape my 11 year old Blue Slate hen. I did not take time to make sure I could recognize the perpetrator as a broke up the attempted rape.

After much back and forth effort I got the three young toms isolated in a grow out pen. Fortunately the weather was not horrible the past two days and the executions prevented any more shenanigans. I had processed one in December at 4 months old for a friend. It dressed out at 8 1/2 lbs. These three at 5 1/2 months old dressed out at 13 lbs. each with a nice layer of fat on them.

The run is now a civilized and quiet place. Breeding season is here and I will not have to separate the toms (already gone) to prevent their hidden Narragansett gene from being spread.

My turkeys are wound up.:barnie
Yesterday the hen had it in for the son. Today the tom and jake were chasing a roo through the snow. Poor roo ran down the beaten path and floundered about 30' to a grape vine before I could get through the e net and run 50'. They tried to take him from me, especially the spare, a jake. As soon as I put the roo away, they lost interest... I reminded them who is dominant anyway:rantAnd my boots got full of snow:rant
Come spring I am building another coop so I can contain the turkeys in the big hoop coop.
I want to wait on the jake and freezer camp until I know the tom survived the winter.:old
