A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

I had no idea they got that big...

I just had a 254 pound pig butchered and I got 113 pounds of meat and lard back from the locker plant....I am thinking some of my meat supplemented their venison sausage making and meat market... I only got 9 pounds of fat back for lard,,,and 17 pounds of bacon.

I shall be moving on to another plant next time.
Sure appears you got snookered. :caf So sorry, Ralphie.
I guess next time you have to tell them you want everything back?

Yea. That does indeedy sound hinky! Our oldest took a deer to a processer last year that a few people recommended to him sayin he was good. But son didnt get EITHER of his backstraps back. Mad mad man he was! Then the guy gave him like seven racks of ribs and said sorry sucks that happened but we didnt take them. Uhhhh where did they go then jerkface? Like the ribs made up for the best cut of meat. Nope hot by a long shot! Son told the friends that recommended this giy and they didnt believe him cause jerkface was “such a great guy and butcher”.

This is how I know my turkeys are not related to @duluthralphie's belly buttons. Today is butcher day for our Thanksgiving guest of honor so I went to the turkey pen before feeding them all, opened the door, and walked over to him. He kindly turned his back to me so I could pick him up correctly and walked out of the pen with my arm wrapped around him, holding on to him. He was calm and collected so I was easily able to use my other hand to close the door and to open the crate to put him in. He dutifully walked right in to the crate and is patiently waiting.

I'm sorry :( I wasn't expecting it to go that smooth either. It was a bit unsettling :/
Reminds me of when I took my belly button of a horse to auction..... she would let me ride her and then when I let my guard down dump me on my head in the middle of the mountains, run the rest of the horses over the top of my mother when she went to feed them, you know typical belly button stuff..... but when it came the day to haul her off she walked right up to me and let me catch her and then calmly walked right into the trailer even with the tarp on the top whipping in the wind. And then walked out like a champ of the other end.... xiytrwxvb horse could have acted stupid on the day I hauled her off so I felt better about selling her...... sigh I almost wanted to turn around and keep her

My turkeys are spared this year... they are around 4 month’s old so they need much more meat on their bones! Plus maybe my hens will lay some fertilized eggs in the spring/summer. Do you guys have hens raise babies if a tom is around or do the incubator method?
