A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Looks like Mama turkey is going broody, she was in a box all day except for a break. Her daughter, that I had to shag in one night, was sitting under the barbwire and grapevine at dusk. I came up from behind and slowly put an old tee-shirt over her and that worked great. :yesss: Stuffed her into a 4x4 box, I'll see if she finds the eggs in there.
well moma is still on the nest and daughter was frantic to get out in the am.. no egg.. so I let her out..I didn't put a bait egg at the barb wire nest... snowed all day but it's been 33 so melting for the most part... guess where daughter is, a repeat performance with the tee shirt tonight.

Tornado watch this evening here until 3am. Very odd for our area but I guess it's not impossible. Looks like some strong storms will be rolling in here in a few hours. Glad the rain looks like it will be holding off till I'm done closing up the coops for the night.

Looks like I may be starting an incubation service. I'm incubating eggs for 2 people right now. About 60 eggs will be going in the incubator for them tonight. I'm charging them 50 cents an egg for a spot.

I'm home! Just finished wrapping up all the getting home business, and also,I believe my yearling tom got into a fight with a horde of wasps or something. He looks pretty awful, but I I laughed too, I feel a little guilty about laughing....

Check and make sure that it is actual swelling and not air filled. It is possible to get air leakage back up into that area. If it is air filled, it can be cured by lancing it to release the air. It is best to make a small but ragged incision rather that a smooth needle puncture as the needle hole can heal too quickly allowing more air to become trapped.

Got my hands on him and darned if you weren't absolutely right. It's air! And no crunch like when there was a fight and air got pushed under the skin during the fight, but it's all one big bubble!
I'll go ahead and Lance it in the morning, I don't have any supplies for that here, and the vets will get a real kick out of seeing this. There will be laughter, I'm sure, but I'll get him in.
Lol.

Aurora, sound a like your getting the storms we just had. Good luck.

So much rain a tree fell over in our neighborhood. . Huge old oak. Of course it took out the power in the whole area. We were down for 5 hours. Took the girls for a stroll. All the neighbors were out. Daisy got surrounded by kids. Kids were having a blast. Annie was in the middle of things being hand fed clover. Lots of selfies taken. Adults get as big of a kick with the girls as the kids do. Something about turkeys seem to make people just grin. I'm betting they will sleep like a couple of logs tonight. They got lots of attention.

My turkeys are happy! We have a garden bed we want the grass and weeds gone from and so I made an enclosed run over the garden beds and the turkeys were loving all the spring grasses. Taking bets how many days until bare earth, lol.

Have my second poult-hatch currently hatching out, I think 15 or 16 are out so far. Last hatch had 22 of 26 hatch. Not too bad for a foamie incubator. My husband is researching building a cabinet incubator.
