Accent Test

hmmm mine came out neutral as well. The map might be a little skewed since all my native local WV mountaineers talk like I do. Maybe they need to extend the line down the OH river a bit more?

Southern

People used to hate Southern accents but now everyone wants one."

funny thing is no one else in my family has a southern accent.. and they always wondered where I got mine from

I was neutral. Makes since cause I grew up in south Florida, full of yankees but really in the south. Plus my moms family is from Ga and Ive lived in Ga for the last 20 years.

My accent is western... Not sure why. My parents are from IA and WI. We lived in CO the first 5 yrs of my life and for then next 43yrs, I've been an Iowan. Hmmm. DH is also Iowan all his life, so no exposure to "western" accents around here.

As a big SO THERE to my MIL and SFIL who say I have a very strong Southern accent - according to the test, I'm neutral. You`re not Northern, Southern, or Western, you`re just plain -American-. Your national identity is more important than your local identity, because you don`t really have a local identity. You might be from the region in that map, which is defined by this kind of accent, but you could easily not be. Or maybe you just moved around a lot growing up.

Mine was Northeastern..I have been to Boston and people there actually understood what i was saying

This could either mean an r-less NYC or Providence accent or one from Jersey which doesn't sound the same. Just because you got this result doesn't mean you don`t pronounce R's.(People in Jersey don`t call their state "Joisey" in real life)

I'm from Australia!
