Women drop an "egg" every month that could turn into a little person. We ladies don't feel sorry every month over that little egg because it could have been a human being. Chicken eggs are the same.

Are you the kind of person that goes to the grocery store and stands there crying at all the frozen chicken patties and egg cartons because you feel 'sorry' for them?

I've had backyard chickens for the past three years and didn't have one instance of a surprise in an egg. I collect them daily and stick them in the fridge. Sometimes I find a surprise nest of half a dozen and collect them and pop them in the fridge.

Maybe I just got lucky? Had a rooster the whole time, maybe he just wasn't up the the challenge.

You get over all of your fears by going for it and ignoring those fears.
Try this. Use your pocket knife to knock the small end off of a smoking hot fresh chicken egg then do the old hound dog thing and suck down the contents of the open egg shell right on down your goozle. This way there is no chance whatsoever that you will be eating a fuzzy baby chick.

I’m not trying to be rude or offend but i highly doubt he carries a pocket knife.

To make myself feel better I candle the eggs before washing and cleaning the eggs for the fridge when my silkies are in broody season to double check for development. My red hatchery birds I bought for tractor supply helped me overcome my nerves over it, if I didn’t collect soon enough they’d eat the eggs in their favorite laying spot. My nephew also said he couldn’t eat anymore after watching them hatch and I told him about how mom hens know which eggs are for eating and for babies.
