Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Gender and color question! I hatched this chick 6 weeks ago. Father is most likely the wheaten rooster and mother is blue wheaten.
I think it's a little blue wheaten cockerel.
What do you all think?

Hello! This is a fantastic thread. It's a pleasure to read through all the posts and look at the photos!

My friend and I hatched Wheaten Ameraucanas over Easter as part of our soon-to-be flocks. We can each only keep 5 hens each, due to fit ordinance. As luck would have it, we seem to have hatched more cockerels than pullets and are concerned about adding additional pullets when the pullets we have are bigger. We'd like to be able to make decisions sooner rather than later. We have our suspicions about these 5 Wheatens (not EEs, we bought from Lark Rise), but would appreciate your thoughts. What do you think these 5 could be...pullets or cockerels?

That was my next question. He had muffs as a chick. Is it possible he can grow them in as he matures or should I cull him now?
Thank you for the reply.
I have a blue Wheaten roo that was the same way. Had nice little cheek muffs as a chick then lost them. They never grew back. He's a beautiful bird otherwise. I use him to make Olive Eggers and Easter Eggers.

Moved the AM "babies" into a new pen today. They love it! Much better than there brooder they were outgrowing. I need to get some pics. I have been so busy and they are getting big fast. Maybe things will slow down here a little with all the rain

Thanks for your reply! That's what we are thinking, too. How long shoukd we give them until we make decisions about who to keep and who stays? Could it be possible that the cockerels are really pullets? We have read that Ameraucanas are usually pretty hard to sex until older, which makes me wonder how often the "peas" method isn't accurate at 3-4 weeks. What do think? How long should we give them to show their true colors? Has anyone ever had a pullet with combs like these photos that looked like 3 rows?
