I have a blue Wheaten roo that was the same way. Had nice little cheek muffs as a chick then lost them. They never grew back. He's a beautiful bird otherwise. I use him to make Olive Eggers and Easter Eggers.

My friend and I hatched Wheaten Ameraucanas over Easter as part of our soon-to-be flocks. We can each only keep 5 hens each, due to fit ordinance. As luck would have it, we seem to have hatched more cockerels than pullets and are concerned about adding additional pullets when the pullets we have are bigger. We'd like to be able to make decisions sooner rather than later. We have our suspicions about these 5 Wheatens (not EEs, we bought from Lark Rise), but would appreciate your thoughts. What do you think these 5 could be...pullets or cockerels?
