Anyone want to lose some weight too? So I'm not starvin' by myself?

Haven't checked in in a while. I have been terribly sick with the flu the past 2 days. Have been puking like crazy, and have like no energy. I was finally feeling a little better today, so I had a glass of choco milk for breakfast, and for lunch I had like 1/3 of a side salad, maybe 10-15 french fries, and a few ounces of Pepsi, yet for some reason I feel like I have ate 3 dinners from Red Lobster and could explode.

But since I have not like ate anything, have lost quite a bit of weight-

Goal Weight-125#
Current Weight-137#
Height-5' 4''

Not bad!

Well I did good at the start of the week and lost weight three days in a row and maintained it for a fourth day. Then...I decided I wanted wine and pizza. I blame that on a combination of stress and that lovely time of the month. So, I gained back the weight that I lost earlier in the week. I guess I just fell off the good behavior wagon for a few days. I've done good with my exercising the last four days. I was really in a groove today and did the Wii Fit for an hour and forty-two minutes. It said I burned 525 calories. I think I'm getting my energy back after this last few days of the same old fatigue and lack of ambition. The downside is I forgot to put dinner in the croc pot before I started my workout.

Nupine, I want to say in advance please don't take this the wrong way.

First of all, GET BETTER GIRL! That being sick stuff stinks and I'm sorry to hear it! It makes good fod choices harder to make as you're just going to settle for what tastes "ok" and stays down!
I haven't said anything before as I tried to bite my tounge because I didn't want to be the bad guy. But it seems as if it may possibly be starting to take it's toll so the nurse in me can no longer go without saying something to prevent it from getting worse.
Everytime I read your posts I am very excited for you and you're weight loss. Though I think I am correct in assuming you are a teen? And you're posts tell me you diet like a teen. Nothing wrong with that ( I did it myself) but it really is not good for your body in the long run, and eventually, you will gain some if not all of the weight back. Especially as you age. I know that you are not starving yourself, but at the same time- you are. As what seems like a healthy fairly active teen your posts of your daily consumption are NOT enough for you to maintain your health and could quite possibly be the reason you are sick. I understand it seems the problem is you need to eat less. But if this is less. than you need to eat more! The problem is you need to make healthier choices in the foods you eat and eat more of THOSE. It's not so much how MUCH you eat, but WHAT. And like I said, I dieted just like you when I was your age and it works. But it will come back as soon as your body starts either a) going into acidosis and depleteting your nutrient reserves to maintain your health, or b) you start eating normally again. For example, not having "much" (sorry I can't go back and quote all the exact things you said) but eating pie for breakfast and a frappe for a snack etc...is not healthy in any way shape or form. Agreed, you're not eating much so yes you're going to lose weight, but you're also filling your body with (pardon the expression) "crap" instead of the nutrients you need.
A diet really should be a lifestyle change, NOT a diet. Those are the "diets" that work. You're last post or two I was glad to see you have at least thrown some vegetables etc in and I'm glad you like your chocolate milk (you can probably thank that milk for keeping you as healthy as you have been through all this) you also will be lucky if the imbalance of nutrients doesn't put you into an electrolyte imbalance such as hypercalcemia. Also, processed vegetables like the V8 are very high in sodium and also are not meant to be a replacement for your daily vegetables as it still lacks some nutrients you get from fresh vegetables (I believe they may even say that on the can). The fast food foods, no matter what you get are high in fat unless it's a salad with low fat dressing and no croutons etc. Your weight loss of 11 lb is amazing, however that is WAY too much for 2 and a half weeks. COMPLETELY unhealthy and like I've said is probably partly to blame for your immune system being down.
As someone who has dieted since I was 14 and like you never been "obese" just a bit more curvey than a lot of girls, I wish someone would have smacked me up side the head and told me this when I was your age. But to me then it was all about the "quickest" loss possible. I figured I'd deal with the rest later. What I didn't realize was that quick loss, tended to make me gain more in the long run bc my metabolism had become shot. I really recommend working more on getting a good healthy food in the amt of servings you need from each of the food groups (nutritionpyramid.gov is a great site for this) and I know it seems like I'm just being a nasty know it all adult and you don't want to even THINK about putting any of those pounds back on (as you may well do the first week or two of eating more healthily) but it really is the most healthy way for you if you are at all concerned with your long term weight and overall health. I also would suggest taking a multivitamin daily as this will help with the illness prevention and keeping you energy up and metabolism functioning as it's supposed to. And drink lots and lots of water. It seems you probably dont like water too much, but there are SO MANY low calorie options to put in drinks out there now- just try to find one! And you can always make iced tea or lemonade!
Once again, I hope you dont take this as offensive, I am hoping it will help you in the long run and save you MUCH headache and problems in the future. If someone had told me it REALLY WAS all about a balanced diet and excersise when I was your age I would have lost of all this weight years ago! Good luck, and if you have questions or need suggestions or whatever, please ASK! I would have no problem trying to help you reach a healthy balanced diet!

Nupine,
I haven't been on this thread very long, but I did read a few of your posts about what you are eating and what Sangel4you wrote above, I want to "second" it. It is a challenge to learn how to eat healthy, especially when there is so much "nutritionally-empty" food around. To lose weight and keep it off, you have to eat nutritionally, too. Not just LESS. I just started Weight Watchers and they have a national record of having the best weight loss program of all. They stress how important it is to eat *enough* food each day -- in order to lose weight! Apparently,if your body doesn't have enough food daily, it will slow down your metabolism so that even reducing to a small amount of food will not make you lose weight over the long run. According to weight watchers, feeling hungry is not a good sign -- they say to feel "satisfied" but not "full" most of the day. Does that make any sense? I'm also trying to learn these things for myself, so this post is partly to remind myself about the healthy eating guidelines. For example, you could eat all this and lose weight AND be healthy:

Breakfast: 2 eggs plus a slice of toast

mid-morning snack: 1 serving of yogurt or an apple or slice of bread

Lunch: Lean protein like tuna or chicken, with lots of vegetables and a 1/2 cup of rice; or a sandwich and cup of soup

Afternoon snack: glass of milk and small bag of nuts or hard-boiled egg

Evening dinner: Lean protein like 1 lean hamburger with bun, veggies and salad or soup

Snack: popcorn or toast and butter

I'm throwing away the scales and buying a measuring tape.
Blasted scales said I gained back all 3 lbs that I lost. But, I did a double work out yesterday (45 mins walking and 3 games of real bowling) and ate really well. No cheats all weekend other than those stupid doritoes.

So out with the scales and in with the tape.

Have a great day all!

Weigh in day. -1 pound, it isn't much but since I've only been focused on eating better for about a week I can live with it. Off for my oatmeal and banana.

Then the frig has to be cleaned. I hate that job!

Hi everyone,
I have been doing good still a vegan 15 days now. I am going to make a big pan of curried rice today and greens. Now mind you I'm from New England and have never cooked greens in my life. They are in the fridge daring me to do something with them I bought dandelion and collard but i'm so afraid they will taste like bitter wilted lettuce.
Do any of you have a good greens recipe that doesn't have meat or dairy.

Oh can't weigh myself my scale needs batteries so I'll do it tomorrow.
My problem is exercise I can't seem to get off my butt.

I use collard greens when I make stuffed "cabbage". It is so much easier to use than cabbage, since it is flat. I blanch the collards, then remove the stem, and then fill with my favorite filling. I usually cook them long and slow to break down the fibers in greens. I like greens cooked with ham hocks too, but that is not vegan. You can try the collards sauted, but I think long cooking works better. I like dandelion green in salad, they add a bitter spiciness to the mix....

I'm going veggie, but not quite vegan. I'm sort of trying to follow the ornish heart diet. Last year I lost weight doing this (and I dropped my cholesterol below 200 for the first time in over 15 years), and I started this year lighter than last. It works for me. I've been beat up a few times by the low carbers, so I'm a little nervous to admit that I'm not eating meat.

the cat is helping me type....so sorry for any weirdness.....

Well, I had a loss of 2lb when I weighed myself this morning. That has been the only bright spot in my day so far. Today seems to be the day for people to pile a ton of stress on my shoulders. That's always good for weight loss. HA!

I'm still struggling with coming up with good healthy recipes. I have not had any planned meals in a week and it is driving me nuts. I ended up having a salad and a pear for dinner last night. It wasn't enough to keep me from getting hungry later in the night, which I usually am not. I was going to put a roast in the croc pot but that doesn't sound good at all today. I know that I want to bake some whole wheat sweet potatoe muffins and try some homemade wheat english muffins. Those aren't exactly dinner items though. I'm only making the english muffins because I can't get any wheat muffins at the moment. The grocery store on this island didn't receive any in their bread order and our family store didn't receive the ones we ordered either. Oh well, it will probably save me some money if I can get the homemade ones to turn out.

Well, I'm not getting anything done sitting here so I'd better get moving. Lets hope this week turns out to be good overall for all of us.
