anyone work for the PO? I need advice before I go nuts

There is a home on the property right? Just thought of something.
What do they need as proof of living there?
Could you maybe bring your gas & electric bill to show you are the owners.
I agree, how do they know you aren't living there? Unless they are peeping in your windows how do they know, plus unless they were delivering a package to your doorstep they would be tresspassing !

I know everytime I bought a different home I would get tons of junk mail, advertising, welcome to the neighborhood type mail automatically.

So is your mailbox connected with a bunch of other peoples on the road???

Mine is 1/4 mile down the road since I am the only one on my road they don't come down it !!! Makes it a bit unpleasent in the winter !

That just doesn't make sense. He'll hand you the mail but won't give you the key ??? Insane !!

I don't know how it all works, but I've had terminology problems myself often related to law enforcement. I own a house that while I don't currently occupy it, I pay the mortgage, taxes, insurance and utilities there. It's rural and we've had theft/vandalism problems off and on. They always insist on calling it an abandoned property.

Drives me crazy. If I abandoned it, why is it costing me so much, why am I keeping tabs on the place and why am I bothering to file reports when things have happened.

I used to get mail there and picked it up regularly, but one day the PO changed the lock. Never did get it straightened out and finally just gave up.

Ahhhh. The happy customer of yet another govt monopoly.

Back in 1844 Lysander Spooner decided to compete with the US govt in mail delivery. He embarrassed them and they outlawed competition in letter carrying.
FedEx, UPS and others are actually parcel services.
To this day it is a federal crime for you to put anything in a private mailbox, like a flyer.

Sorry, not helpful but informative

They do have a service called General Delivery where you go to the PO and get your mail there. The real reason a PO wont deliver to an unoccupied address is there is no possibility for getting incoming mail and no potential for $$ and delivering mail would be an expense only.
