Worms cannot live in any stomach throat or intestines if your flock is treated twice monthly with 1 tsp of apple cider vinegar per gallon of water.. Has cured gape for me multiple times plus I use a light light mixture of food grade diatomaceous earth please follow package directions (omg Google the uses for livestock and pets in the yard barn and house!!!) treats coupes of any parasite fly spider any insect or is pest including but not limited to one mentioned above

I have given ACV (unpasturized with the mother) in water (1 tbsp/gal) for a week straight and didn't kill roundworms in my flock. ACV just doesn't work for that. Wished it did. I've tried multiple things and still trying things for roundworms. Roundworms are a huge problem for me and my chickens for some reason, since day 1.

Many times people see a chicken stretch its neck out and open its mouth and assume it is gape worm. How do you know they had gapeworm? They do that to adjust their crop. ACV might help with crop problems or bacteria/fungi in the crop but I doubt it kills gapeworms. I still give mine ACV once per week for crop health.

I have no experience with DE.

Unfortunately, regulars see this type of thread all the time. That is the reason you got the above replies.

I am interested in the above two substances for human consumption(food grade of course) for treatment of parasites/parasitosis. I have experimented with diet and lifestyle change over several years culminating in whole and complete shift to a plantbased life.

Early during my transition and having already taken a 30-day Vegan Challenge I was experimenting with a shot of ACV in the morning before my coffee and found that I passed some kind of... something in my stool several days in. I falsely assumed it had something to do with the ACV(being unpasteurized w the mother) and stopped the experiment.
However finding anything in the stool isn't proof you 'had' parasites but rather that you 'HAVE' parasites so I'm beginning to think I've now been carrying them since at least that incident(lord knows how long since, some of the statistics can be rather frightening especially for Americans. Yikes!) You see, many parasites live within the host entirely unnoticed and its only until the balance and harmony is disrupted with too much population(thus too much of their excrement/bodies/etc.) builds up and you become sick, similar to normal viral or bacterial infection in that by the time you show symptoms the war has long been raging.

My point in being here at the moment is having googled the two substances as I intend on resuming the experiment very soon. There is much activity in my gut and for years I've attributed it to 'gas.' Now I'm realizing how silly that sounds, especially as I literally expel so much daily(another symptom of parasites, and one I foolishly explained away and dismissed.)

DE is only useful (debatable) when it is DRY and everything that is going to come in contact with it is dry. I use it because I have some, only as a dusting at the bottom of nest boxes under the bedding. I doubt I'll replace it when it's gone. Occasionally I use it to dust plants when I have too many aphids.
Apple cider vinegar.... well maybe it has some effect on digestive health but it will certainly not take care of parasites that are already present. And I have yet to see a study of it in chickens, given that they have a very different digestive system than mammals do.
'Natural' things can play a role in maintaining health and wellness. They are not going to treat a problem like internal parasites, mites, lice or a nasty infection once you have it. We don't keep chickens in a 'natural' environment, if such a thing even exists for a domesticated species. That means we have to use our human inventions to solve the problems the human invention of chicken keeping causes. Or you'll have sick and dead chickens. Maybe not tomorrow, or next week, but it will happen.

Welcome to BYC.
I strongly suggest that you call your doctor and make an appointment and bring a stool sample with you to be tested for parasites.
