Finally went to check...4/5 eggs she has had from day 1 are out, the 5th hasn't pipped, I'm alittle worried about the other five late comers, the air cells haven't dipped and if they don't hatch within the next 24-48 hours I am sure she will leave them.. Going to be away from the house all day tomorrow..

Ok guys... I didn't as it turned out have a usable desk lamp so I improvised and decided to use a brooder lamp... Sat the eggs Monday morning at 7 am and candled the next morning expecting them all to be dead, much to my amazement four of them were alive!!! One looked to be an early quitter and another was questionable... So that left me with four viable eggs... I told hubby I was going to keep a close eye on that heat lamp as it would raise the temp pretty fast depending on the room temperature.. Candled again yesterday morning and decided to open one of her eggs that she was sitting...It was rotten!! (thank goodness for plastic baggies) Re-candled and could see movement in the four eggs.... Got up this morning and decided (I know bad) to candle again and two of the eggs have internal pips are are moving!! I can see movement in the other two but they haven't pipped the membrane...Mind you, my set up is pretty crude and I have no way to check or raise humidity so these babies will or will not hatch and there is very little I can do about it.. I provided the warmth they need I will let God do the rest...

Here is a couple photo's of my set up.. Today marks day 20 for these four

Update... I moved the whole operation to the master bathroom, got it good and steamy then plugged in the humidifier, got the heat lamp in there and as we speak the temp on the top of the eggs is 99- 101 degree's and the humidity is 53% I borrowed the temp/humidity gauge from the incubator room and will more than likely spend the day running back and forth

Today is day 14 and I candled a few eggs- just because. And it seems that the egg is pretty well 3/4 filled and dark- is that about right? Still struggling to see through the blue and marans egg shell. Couldn't get the cell phone app. My phone isn't co-operating. Grrrrrrr!
Temp is holding at 99-100 with humidity at 40-42. Just a few days til lock-down...right? Day 17?

I usually lock down on day 18 (they will hatch on Saturday, so on Wednesday is my lockdown)

I keep a spray bottle of warm water nearby to spritz down the eggs if I have to open the incubator to remove chicks. This keeps the membranes moist on the ones working on escaping. I don't like to keep the hatchlings in the bator for more than a few hours at most, they never dry off and keep banging into the other eggs and rolling them around. My first hatch I believe I lost 3 that pipped then got rolled over upside down and they died.

All the ones that I placed back right side up lived. So, now I don't take any chances. I remove the babies and put in a pre heated brooder.

17 more should be hatching on April 19th!

I've found this date to be completely dependent on your incubation. I didn't add water and lock down until day 18, and my three earliest eggs didn't make it, they shrink wrapped before they could externally pip, but the eggs that were behind them in development all hatched out just fine.

Hatching today! Set 18 eggs in my Rcom20. 17 are fertile, 10 are Maran eggs, 8 are my own Easter eggers. So far, 4 Easter eggers have hatched with many more pips. I can't wait to see my Marans.
