APRIL Hatch a long ......Anyone?

I know that with gerbils, if the mother runs out of a water source, she'll eat one of the babies so she can continue to produce milk for the rest of the litter.
Perhaps your hen was hungry but too devoted to go out and forage for insects?

I've got her in a cage with plenty if water and food that I know she's been eating. So, idk if that is the case. It could be but she's got plenty good and water to sustain herself during this time.

Here they are! :D with a few more to hatch out!

THEY'RE SOOOO TINY!

I always use a soaking wet wash rag for days 18-21. Ups the humidity right away.If needed Re-soak it through a . soda straw into the vent hole and it will be fine. The sponges don't do it for me ever..
Must remember its the SURFACE wetness that ups the humidity not the DEPTH of the water .

My Hatch Day for LOs .... but im going out to my quilting bee. Get away for a while..
I am not expecting much since the temp went to 122 twice and 94 more than once in a one week period SO discusting since it was perfect the other 2 weeks.

.(IN THE GENESIS not this thing...)

No offense to those who have the regular hovabator etc..but I HATE this incubator..3rd ive had like this and ALL did the same for me eventually during every hatch.Maybe its me...IDK
Think i might try and make a cooler bator. Hear they are way more reliable than bought not sure why but that's what i hear.BEST by a mile I have seen on YouTube.... RUSH LANE POULTRY has a few on building one and a video on JUST the wiring one ...... GREAT!!!
I put on a computer fan in the still air with his video. SO EASY!

He has very easy and BEST close up instruction on wiring and also tells where to buy the things you need and what to buy.! Most don't tell that.Ive looked on youtube before but this guy is VERY detailed and easy to understand. ( ID USE SALLYS BUT I DONT WANT ONE THAT BIG)

Maybe some guys know all about wiring etc ..but me im an older woman raised by women and we painted the house wallpapered and aIve done a lot in myhouse and out built my coops but didn't do wiring so the details are what i need to get it done. Not gobble de gook on what someone is putting on the bator to regulate it and no details or close ups on what to do.

The new hatch I put in this regular hovabator a few days ago........ again was optimistic it will be fine,...HAHA.... most are very old 3-4 weeks its a test hatch see if they hatch and as usual was going fine then went to 110 last night day 3..... Why ? who knows.? GGGRRR
Will go in the Gen after this lockdown bunch is out. Some still might be saveable at this point

Might try my broody today though too. I have one girl who probably only has a few eggs might run a few of these others out to her but shes so tiny a silkie not many will fit. she cant do worse!.
Sorry about the ranting ..so frustrating.. as many of you know.

I'd be glad to take any pic of my home made set up you request to see. I have some fairly decent pics already. It's a styro cooler, !/2" wire screen, lamp socket, night light, water heater thermostat, pc fan, and a 12 volt wall charger. I'll have to look for it, but I have a hand drawing of a wiring diagram that you can't mess up. I'll find the drawing and post it for you. Here are a couple pics of the works of it. Note the cage I put around the light bulb. I mounted the thermostat to that cage and it holds the temp consistently at about 1/2" above the light bulb. With it wired this way the fan and the night light are on constantly, and the 60W bulb kicks on and off with the thermostat. The styrofoam lid is scrapped and replaced with a piece of 3/4" plywood with the glass from an 8x10 frame cut into it. It works great and I've hatched a couple hundred birds in it. The temp doesn't fluctuate at all unless the temp in the house changes.

We're about halfway into our incubation, maybe a little more with chicks due around thu next week but I have a question. My broody appears to have cracked an egg open and maybe eaten what's inside. I can only assume since all that's left us a shell and I know there's no way a check has hatched. Chickens don't have preemie babies. And I know another hen did this a while back. Do they do this when/if they know an egg is not fertilized? That's the only thing I can come up with. But what do I know? Can anyone answer my questions. Inquiring minds wants to know.

Thanks!

most likely it was an accident....but once it was cracked open she ate it
so far my silkies are terrible mothers..they maybe great incubators but horrible mothers

Newbie messed up..... This is my first attempt at hatching and everything was going well. Temps staying steady. Humidity right. Until day 15. We sent on vacation and the guy who was watching my chicks, bunnies, and ducks didn't put in any water into the bator and humidity sat at ab 50-60 from day 15 -21. And let the temp drop to 85-90 for a fee days. Are they lost? Will they b late? There r 12 RIR.

Candle and see if you can see any movement.
