April Hatch Along

:frow

Jumping in here, hope nobody minds! :D

I swore I was going to take a break after my Call duck hatch 2 weeks ago, and my lavender Orpingtons this weekend, but I went and loaded the Bator again with 36 eggs - seramas and OEGBs from my flock! They will be due April 26th!

Good luck all. Let's see some babies!!

Hi! I haven't posted much and truly am still learning how to navigate these forums, but this one seemed a good place to start. I am hatching my first ever batch of eggs from my own Rooster and hens. He's an Easter Egger. The girls are 2 Easter Eggers, 1 Lavender Orpington and 1 Barred Rock. Started with 41 eggs. Have lost 6. 5 discovered during 2nd week and the 6th just 2 days ago. All had the dreaded red line. So now I have 35! All seem okay and they were put on lockdown last night. Started them Sunday March 19th so the 21st day I thought would be this Saturday April 8th, but now I've been reading a bit more and discovered my true hatch date should be Sunday April 9th? I am on pins and needles waiting for this hatch! I am also all over the place with emotions from scared none will hatch to Ecstatic thinking what if ALL of them hatch?! to more realistic that some will and some won't hatch deal with it buttercup. haha

Wow GA Bunny! Start big, why dontcha! :D

Easiest way to remember days for me is they should hatch on the same day of the week as you set them on. Friday to Friday, etc. Works for ducks too! Of course, some breeds hatch early, some are known for being late. But that's the rule of thumb I go by.

Hi all,
Wandering over to this thread because I have a very staggered hatch this month - about every 5 days a new group will go into the hatching bator. My regular incubator looks like terrible tenement housing right now, with eggs crammed everywhere. I'm sure my family gets a kick out of watching me turn them all, but I have a system (mhmm, yes, yes, I sure do...). Anyway, my first "unlikely to yield anything" group of three badly damaged shipped Bieles is in the hatcher and there is one tiny pip. The air sacks were so bad on these, I'm not getting my hopes up. Saturday I will put in a better, second set of Bieles. Following that will be some cjwaldon CLs, then some tjchickens Bantam d'Uccles, followed by some more Bieles, CLs and some 55s - all from Papa's here locally. Whew!! Oh....and then there's that bid on ebay I placed impulsively.... (sadly, I will not be offering any advice on self control during this hatchalong!!)

I decided to wander over from the March thread too. My Biele eggs were set March 23 along with 15 Cochin/Frizzle eggs from WVduckchick. Lockdown is Monday. I will be setting 13 Ancona duck eggs and 6 Cayuga eggs tonight. I also will not be a good one to ask about self control. :p

Well, actually I figured to count on only about half to hatch since I've never done this before. maybe I over compensated hahaha

Are your eggs local or shipped? What type of incubator are you using? We will try to help you along so that you have your best (first!) hatch ever!!
