Are oyster shells needed?

Ok thanks, I don't think I'm going to feed them egg shells though. I'm ok with it but some in my family are not.

Pssttt... Don't tell your family, but chickens love to eat scrambled or hard boiled (break them up, so they don't make the mental jump to their own eggs) eggs too. And it is good for them. ;)

I've heard.

I always offer oyster shell even though I feed layer feed. All hens are different & one could have a different need for calcium. The problem with buying OS is you will pay almost as much for 5 lbs. as you do for 50. 50 lbs. lasts a year or more for me with 13 hens, but it never goes bad.
