I've done a ton of research, thank you very much. I have done my homework, and have reached my conclusion. Yes it is possible to fulfill dietary needs of an adult with plants. But I've got special needs children to take into consideration, I've got a budget to take into consideration, and I've got to weigh the pros and cons of it all. I am confident that I have made the right choice for me and my family.
Try to be a bit more open minded and less judgemental. Just because something is not the right choice for you, does not mean it's wrong for everybody.
Even growing broccoli does some harm to some animals somewhere. Something lost it's home when the field was tilled, countless number of critters were killed by the machines that are used in modern day farming. Even organic pesticides can harm wildlife. Organic fertilizers utilize the bones and blood of deceased animals. Everything on this planet revolves around a constant dance of life and death, you are not the exception.
i guarantee you that no animal suffers as much as a butchered or enslaved chicken in the process of growing broccoli, which is far cheaper and more nutritious. maybe you think that the LIFE and suffering of animals is an acceptable cost for convenience and tasty treats but you can obviously see what people think about that point of view. somebody needs to speak up for these poor animals that can't do it themselves

i know exactly what is in my gummy worms+bears, as well as peach rings and jell-o, but that doesnt stop me from eating them, or judge anyone else for eating them. the only reason i am judging you @birdofhermes is because you are trying to force your ways and opinions on everyone else, i have no problems with vegans, vegitarians, gays, bisexuals, or religions, or colored people, as long as they dont force their ways on me, and i have a gay vegan friend that i adore with all my heart, he doesnt judge me for processing those birds

the whole point of a meat animal is to be eaten, no one ever said it had to be fun killing animals, and it those people who find it amusing to kill and cruelly treat animals that are wrong. the more plants that are grown, the better off we will be, and there will never be a stop to processing animals, people evolved to eat both meat and plants, there is no stopping that way of life, so i dont worry about what my neighbor or online person thinks, i know i will never be able to stop eating meat, and i will continue to do so, nothing you say can change me or the hundreds to thousands of people to do so.
if you were "evolved" to eat meat then you would be able to just pick up the chicken out of the field and eat it without dying. that's obviously not the case. maybe you will continue on your path but maybe you won't. either way it's not sustainable and you're not going to live forever

yes, cuz my meat chicken or duck is screaming in bloody terror when i cuddle it, thank you for pointing that out

i'm sure these animals love you very much which makes it even worse that you'd betray them like that. do you honestly think that they know you're planning anything like that?

sorry i am not a wild animal of prey thank you, i am human, and i am evolved to eat certain cooked and raw foods just like anyone else, allergies included, and its

if i was raised with all my friends to be able to eat as much as i want, was never hit, yelled at, or cruelly treated, and i knew i was going to be eaten, i would be fine with it because i was raised happy and treated fine

animals that are "evolved" to eat meat have the teeth and digestive system to do so without cooking the pathogens out of it. i seriously doubt you would choose to be locked up and fed cheap scraps in exchange for having your life cut drastically short. you definitely wouldn't choose such a life for your own children

then I should be prepared to kill and butcher it
Or you could be prepared to pay someone else to do it... ;)

I have done it myself, and am prepared to again in the future. It has really helped to have the experience and have a handle on how to help a bird out if it's injured or ill beyond what is acceptable.

I raise DP also, but the pasture raised broiler traded to me for a flock rooster by the guy I found to process my meat, was indeed one of the best I've had.... without any brining or other magic tricks.

We do grow fruits and vegetables on our 1 acre with what little sun we get. Our growing season is short. And the other challenges related to weather are many. We plant ONLY edible plants when we do. No I'm not allergic to them and I think they are tasty and delightful, when HOMEGROWN. Are you kidding me... have you tasted a white store bought tomato or strawberry that's been transported hundreds of miles + if not imported. :sick I refuse to eat something that taste like... well, nothing. :idunno

Killing YES, exploiting NO.

Anyways, in this day and age it is pretty cool how much most of us do have access to. Seriously I love bananas. :drool But I agree with the person who said this was a nonjudgmental area as indicated by the OP, even though it wasn't posted as a rule.

But beyond that... in THIS day and age... what gives you the right to tell someone else how they should live? Just because you don't eat animal products does not make you better than those who chose not to follow your religion. Why do people get all high and mighty when they suddenly become vegan and wanna scoff when someone doesn't measure up to their new found pulpit? :rant

Anyways, live and let live! :gig
