My DH is in Afghanistan, Eastern. Very proud of him, though he sometimes feels discouraged by the lack of visible progress. we didn't have very good luck with USAA, as far as a lender. Military people can sign up for an account at Military One Source, which has booklets, CDs and actual Books on deployment stuff that they will send you for free. they also have lots of info and answers for your questions and a toll free number if you want to talk. I think your BEST source of support is the local FRG (Family Readiness Group) where real people are going through the same stuff you are. Personally I don't take advantage of all the programs they offer, but there are some really good programs for kids of soldiers (or even Kid siblings of soldiers)...

What a great idea for a thread. My DH is a 20 veteran of the submarine service, and we gladly support anything to honor our fellow Americans who are willing to serve. I have an uncle who is a WWII vet and my FIL served in the Navy during the Korean war. God bless all of you who support your family members in the service!

ps: USAA is a great insurance company. We've used them for auto and home insurance since we were married in 1970, and have had excellent service from this company the whole time... never a problem.

Here is my son and DH the day he deployed last year. Soon to be leaving Iraq for Kuwait then home for good He one of a long line of military men in both our families
