August Hatch-A-Long

Pics
Yeah, he just got out of Rooster Jail and is in with his own breed of females (due to the Beta Rooster not making fertile eggs)... The first trail cam video I did with him with females shows him approaching them and the females getting out of his way. I suppose the Red Ranger hens won't get out of his way so he attacks them. They won't get out of my way either. Its not because they are too big to move, they just have no fear. They sure can move fast if an egg breaks in their pen. Or if a tree frog lands in their pen.

I bought a camera to hopefully do live hatches with but now I'm thinking I need to spy on the chickens outside.

I was about to just go take the pictures again, that would have taken less time than going through the photos.
I’m just getting used to using bookmarks. :old

No internal pips yet! I’m kind of excited because the longer they wait the more chance of popping a couple under the broody.

I THINK I’m gonna go for it with this hatch with a couple. If it doesn’t work I’ll be right there to watch. If it breaks her broodiness that’s fine, it’s HOT and I feel bad anyway. If it works.... yay!!!!! Either way, I won’t have 75 ages of chicks this fall.

You just reminded me of when I put a 2 week old chick with a broody that had only been broody for a few days. The chick wasn't having it, it wasn't the broody, so I put the chick back in the brooder after about an hour but it didn't actually break her broodiness either. It was my white Leghorn that went on to hatch speckled Sussex chicks.
Not to say that it would be exactly the same for you because every single broody experience is a little different but since I did that swap in broad daylight I was able to watch the interaction really clearly. The broody talked to the chick and her pupils dilated and contracted like crazy. Chicks are apparently broody hen drugs. :lau

I mean, obviously I was just curious in that situation. I didn't expect it to work with a 2 week old chick but it was the only one I wanted to keep from that hatch so I was curious enough to try. Lol

I can't wait to see how this works out for your first broody!!!
