August Hatch-A-Long

Pics
Well I still have one live egg in the incubator and two of the chicks that aren’t doing so well in the other. I’m fairly certain the other eggs are done but I’m leaving them in just in case. Excuse the brooder mess cleaning is next on the agenda. Here are 10/12 I was hatching for the other person (the other 2 are still in the incubator, hopefully recovering)

This little girl came from theoretically my Barnvelder boy? Kidlet swears she watched it hatch from an egg labeled “Sam” but I can’t see the white LH CCL cross and a hyline producing this.

I wasn’t sure who this little ones daddy was... until I saw the fuzzy feet! Surely one of Chickie Hawks girls!

And here’s my little mixed bag of chicks... I think I have 23? Out of 30 going into lockdown. 5 or six of there’s are from the other farm where my Barnvelder boy is theoretically the father.

The one fallen down in the second pic is just a timing thing... she’s fine! So it’s time to ready the bigger brooder I think!

Sounds like you had a great hatch!

So I am 3 days from lockdown. And since these are dark eggs that I have had difficulty seeing into them with the candler, I went out and bought a 400lm very bright led flashlight. So I recandled them. And to tell the truth I expected them to be a lot different than when I candled at day 8, they look the same. I am positive the questionable one is a dud, clear throughout. the others though, there is so much clear and I can't see any veinging or large dark areas with 6 days left i expected them to be almost all opaque and they are not :(

Oh no! :( You're on day 15 then?

@wolfwalker I have a 1300 lumen little LED flashlight that I candle with and some eggs are still difficult to candle. I would take out the one you know is clear and do a sniff test on the others to make sure none of them are stinky but otherwise wait a bit longer. I don't have any day 15 images of candling to share with you but I do have a day 12 of a Marans egg and a day 18 of BLRW. I hope that helps!

The hardest egg I candle are my Dark Cornish, they aren't even a dark egg they are just inconsistently translucent. They seem to have these invisible specks that when candled show up. Similar to the ones @CluckNDoodle just much worse.

Every now and then, I get a porous egg too.
