I realised I forgot a couple things.
When starting with the light you will have the issue of dark legs, but that's only a concern of you're worried about breeding to Standard.
And my second rooster, Rodney, is also two generations from the light. I had a show steward walk me through the points of my roosters and my hen, Spices. One of Rodney's strong points is his colour!

Hey guys I’ve got a problem… just hatched this chick that I thought was sebright.. it’s not it’s a jap… problem is it’s got a bubble or something that looks like it’s coming out of its vent.. it’s very red/purple and has lots of veins… chick is very exhausted I’ve put it back into the incubator on some toilet paper (we ran out of paper towel) to rest… any ideas what it might be? I can take a photo if needed

Sorry to hear that...might be a congenital deformity....Not sure...what did the rest of BYC think?

Haven’t put it up anywhere else but the threads I was reading said to put it on paper towel and back in the incubator for 12-24hrs

It may have gastroschisis...do a google search on that....if that's the case prognosis is poor unfortunately....

I may wrong of cos...

On closer inspection now they it’s got some strength back… it’s coming from it’s abdomen.. like where the yolk would go in from
