Okay, tell me I'm not crazy. This chick is driving me nuts. It has a huge comb but has pullet plumage. Approximately 7 weeks next to a bantam chocolate orpington cockerel (to the left). I just rehomed a definite cockerel sibling today. Please tell me this is just a pullet with a large comb!

Sorry, at 7 weeks old that is a Cockerel.

He looks like he will at least have nice comb.

Even with the long straight tail feathers?

Definitely a cockerel. You will find little difference in the shape of feather between a pullet and a cockerel at seven weeks of age. Cockerels don't usually develop their adult curly feathers until they begin to mature at about 3-4 months depending on your line.

Well, these weren't from my Australorps, as they have always been obvious to me from early on. So, I guess this line is less reliable for feather sexing. Sigh. That means I have one pullet and had 3 cockerels No fair!

I haven't been able to feather sex any of mine. The first hatch all feather sexed as pullets. I ended up with 4 pullets and 5 cockerels.
