Australorps breed Thread

A work mate was trying to tell me that the australorp has black meat, I disagreed said he is thinking of a silkie. Please help clarify, Who is correct?

Black meat is:

Silkie
ayam cemeni
svart hona

There are other breed but the breeds above are in America.

You are so right. There are black chickens that have black skin and black meat. And yes, Silkies do have dark skin and black meat. >It is because a Silkies heart pumps the blood in reverse< to other chicken. The other breed with dark skin and meat have a genetic defect.

I think that there are 4 breeds with black meat. 2 of them are from Thailand. There are not many here in the states. I think they are the Ayem Cemani and the Kadecnath. I may have spelled them wrong. Of course Silkies. I cannot think of the other. It has blue skin and is also Asiatic.

I'm getting a black Australorp soon and was just wondering, can I have a list of pros and cons of these breeds?!

super super sweet to the point I can hold her. only con is they usually end up at bottom of pecking order. Pro mine is broody. At first she was a bit confused but I helped her a bit and she's good now. I do have to remove her every morning and night or she would starve! My other broody has it down!
And they are stunning in the sun ! The emerald green is gorgeous !!

We have solved the pecking order dilemma by only having Australorps! Their "pecking order" is punctuated by "Please" and "Thank you."

They're the best! Egg-laying machines and can be a meat bird if you want them to be. Hatchery stock may not have much meat on them, but my APA Aussie rooster is a HEAVY bird.

They're great mothers when they go broody (and they will, but not like a Silkie), kind and docile and sweet... They are a little shy at first, but warm up to you easily, especially when they associate you with food.

And the GREEN SHEEN!

Those are silkie crosses?

I don't think so...only the one strain is a silkie cross and I just can't remember what they're called but those are an effort to create another breed.
