Australorps breed Thread

I am new to the Australorp breed, so I have a few questions for the experts J,

Is it typical for a young pullet to have a white tipped wing flight feather? I have several like this.
Is it bad trait if they have pronounced tails?

They are from Hatchery stock

Thank you very much, Randy

that is normal...when their adult feathers come in...they will be black...if the adult feathers come in with white tips..then it is incorrect..

Hi Aveca, So my utility birds are close to your SOP? The blue hen is quite nice although quite far from the Australian SOP. She does have a nice comb though. I know what you mean about my birds having sloppy combs, they are not to flash but are good in other aspects. My utility birds must come from similar lines to the original importation to America then.

In regards to white Australorps I would definitely not be crossing Australorp with white langshan. Stick with Orpington like you stated. You must remember you are trying to create an American Australorp according to the APS. Even if you were trying to create an Australian Australorp, crossing your langshan would not work as American Langshans look quite different from Australian Langshans. It is great that you intend to create the white Australorp though. Once there is more of a colour variety, hopefully the breed will become more popular.

There have been such a variety of Australorp colours that no one even knows about. They have wheaten Australorps in South Africa, mottled Australorps somewhere else, blue laced red Australorps somewhere else, and a breeder in Australia created cuckoo Australorps. She had these since a few years back. I think the next goal with Australia should be to bring the cuckoo Australorp back once white has well and truly been established.

Here are a few more blue pullet pics from an exhibition x utility mating. (Not great photos but you get the idea. Maybe it would be good if huppfarm had a look at the photos of Blues I have been posting)
Blue Pullet. Don't worry about the split breast. It grew out when she got a little older.

Black utility pullet.

And an exhibition blue chick.

Great pictures everyone! I have a question regarding this my girls. I have a light Sussex roo I fostered, and I was wondering if anyone has ever mix the two. He has two feathers growing out of his toes. Not perfect, but my girls love him and he's the nicest rooster I've ever owned. The picture of the egg is just for showing off, it's her fourth egg laid, if you don't call her first egg which was a softshell. I like the daily easter hunt :)

My chick has completely feathered out and her wing tips are white, but they are definitely getting darker.
that set of feathers will come off in a feaher storm and be replaced by their adult feathers..the feathers you are seeing now are like baby teeth..they will loose those including those pointy white wing tips..if by 10 mos or so check again..if the next feathers come in with white tips then it is a fault..i have a yard full of baby aussis with white baby tips..i will post a pic for you when im on pc, right now im on tablet dont have those pics in this..if you look back on this thread you will see some feathering out babies with those pointy white tips..
