baby duck with lots of problems

Patti have you seen anymore hawks?  I hope not.  So far so good here no hawks sighted for 2 days here.  Knocking on wood here.

Yesterday hubbie and I cleaned the coop.  It really needed it bad.  We rearranged a lot of things and took out some of the nesting boxes.  Hubbie patched the floor that had burned last winter and we just had it covered with a piece of wood.  The chickens were upset with the new arrangement they are such creatures of habit.  It will take them some time to get used to everything.  It looks so nice and clean now but it won't take them long to mess it up.

I hope everyone has a nice day and hugs a chicken or duck or a cute little finch duck.

Patty
oh Patty, burds love to mess up their clean surroundings. My finch ducks are notorious for that.

Thanks Julie and we've missed you girl.  Que Sera had to have a pic of her standing up so you could see her lovely webs.

Patty
thank you Patti. I have missed you all too. Now catching up a little. Tell Que Sera thank you for sitting on your lap so that I could see her webs.

catching up here. Thank you Sweet Miss Lydia.

I haven't seen any since day before yesterday Patty, I was gone most of the morning today so i left the gate open so the ones in the larger area can get up close to the house if one comes around My theory maybe being so close the hawk can't get in here.

I hope the hawks were just passing threw and flew further south Patti. Ozzie ate his steak with gusto. Hubbie said he deserved a bigger one but with the price of steaks he was lucky to get that. The other day I picked up Fanny and she kind of squalked and Ozzie come running to the back yard. He has become a regular flock protector. I feel safer when he is in the yard with the ducks and the chickens.

I have to go feed and water and I hope everyone has a nice day. Patti give Opie a big hug and kiss from me and tell him he's still the king in our book even if he's losing feathers and Sam is bossing him around.

Patty my dads old dog has taken up the protector, at least her presence outside the fence may keeo something from coming around she is a big dog. she loves to go out and lay in the sunshine and the ducks and chickens stay close by. It helps to give us a little more security

Opie and sam got into it this morning so far Sam has won each round and this is just the beginning Sam hasn't challenged me yet so he isn't fully hormonal yet
hmm.png
So Opie and his girls have the run of the side yard and back yard and driveway. Ernie and Ruth and some of the chickens who can go where ever they want too have the front yard and the Geese [gang] have the half acre to them selves unless a chicken or ducks decide to go over the fence. Cannot imagine why they would want to caught Babe with a mouth full of chicken feathers the other day. They better be thankful I love them because they can be a real pain.

Oh forgot to mention Ozzie got his steak what a good boy. glad he enjoyed it.... and no hawks that I am aware of. I need to go do some painting .

That's sweet you have your dad's dog. I'm sure just the presence of a big dog does make them think twice about swooping down on anything.

It sounds like Opie is determined to get the best of Sam. He's not a quitter and he's brave you can tell that with his swagger. Hopefully they will call a truce and get along. Well at least you have a lot of room for each group to stay out of each others way which is a good thing if they will do it.

Enjoy your painting it sounds like you are motivated today. I've got to do laundry it is over flowing here.

That's so cool that your guy's dogs will protect the flock. I like to think mine would if it were to come down to it. But really I'd like to never have to find out if she'd go after a hawk if one tried anything. I hope no hawks ever get my girls or ducks, osprey and Eagles either.

I'm not sure how Maggie would react to a hawk actually coming down to get someone, but I am just hoping her presence out there makes a difference. She's 12 yrs old so she isn't as fast as she use to be, and my wimpy dogs are to cold natured now to stay outside. Maggie loves to lay in the sun right out in the driveway so hopefully she is a deterrent. Maggie sleeps inside but loves to be out on sunny days but they are fading fast here.
How are your chicks doing @GarnerZoo Haven't seen any new pcs lately.

Are hawks more active in the Fall and that's why you guys have been seeing them?

My ducks are used to getting closed in their coop at dusk. So...here soon they'll be in at 5 in the evening and I get out there in the morning at 4:45. Will they be okay literally cooped up for 12 hours a day? Actually, now that I"m thinking about it, I don't get home from work until 5 so guess I'll visit with them right when I get home and then put them in the coop.

Patty, what kind of dog is Ozzie? Yep, my memory is bad.
