Banded Pigeon Found - Assistance Please

Pics
Some fanciers use a long handle net to catch birds out of reach in the loft. Or can the 2 of you drop a sheet over Pen and grab him that way? Pal should find these options even more amusing!

Control of feed is used to train pigeons. It might work if they were not fed in the morning before being let out. The problem is some birds are willing to miss or delay a meal in exchange for their freedom and they might not want to wait until Pen gets really hungry.
About half my flock comes right in at the food call and the other half strolls in when good and ready. I could do better by restricting the feed more.:D

@WVduckchick - How are your new pigeons settling in?

Well it’s only been one day, but they seem ok in the cage I built, for now. We took the satinettes into our home office yesterday to see how well they can fly. They had no problem flying up on high things! Lol. They are still nervous, so it’ll take some time, but I’ll get there with some patience.
The male is a bit larger and has more blue on his chest and in his leg feathers. I think they are gorgeous though. I’m in love already. :)

Your cage is very nice and the birds are stunning! Their leg feathers are cute. I don't like the extremely large muffs some breeds have that make them look like they are walking on wings. Those types need a very dry environment and special perches.

How did you catch them when they were loose in your office?:D

They weren't really too hard to catch. A couple times they landed on top the desk credenza, etc, then up on a shelf that's about a foot below the ceiling. (with several glass knickknack items that I didn't consider beforehand!) Luckily hubby is tall enough to reach. And I stood on a chair. :D But we'd let them sit there for a few minutes, then come in slowly, and they were fairly receptive to letting us lift them.

That's awesome!! :highfive:

Are you giving them access to feed while they are out?
I was reading about withholding food... in a way that doesn’t starve them, but makes them receptive to your commands and teaches them that they can trust you. Just for a couple weeks until they get the idea.
That's a great idea!

It's great isn't it?! It isn't super hard to catch Pen, but it's not like just picking Pal up. I just don't want to create a game to which Pen looks forward (while Pal looks on amused!).
Yes it is!
I dont blame you.. Hopefully you can get Pen to cooperate and maybe Pal just thinks Pen is bonkers and won't want to join in the antics...:fl

Are you feeding them ad-lib? You could try feeding them only in the morning or evening but only give them what they will eat no more. No snacks/treats in between! And then if you want them in just rattle a can with a little food in and put a little inside the cage. This should condition them to know that they only get food inside their cage and when you rattle the can.
