Banded Pigeon Found - Assistance Please

We have an old parrot cage in which he is currently living, but it feels small. I built a shelf and he/she seems to like to hang out up there during the day. Because of the cats, we have the pigeon in my wife's gallery, which, when she's not here (like now), is kind of lonely. I guess I could hardware cloth the parrot cage and then move it into the kitchen (but did i read about cooking smells?) or somewhere else. If we go the indoor route, it sounds like we'll need pigeon pants so lil dude can get some exercise. I do need to build an auxiliary duckhouse, and I'm thinking I could build it with the bird in mind...even if just for daytime aviary outdoor time. Hmmmmm.

I think that looks wonderful! I am not sure, but I have heard that the kitchen should be off limits to them. I believe non stick pans can produce a toxin that will kill them. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

I saw your post and had to check it out didn’t even know where it was till just now. Been missing y’all over on the duck forum. I should have known you’d have it all covered!!!

We'll be back in the duck forum soon! Summer is crazy with outdoor chores, gallery hours and houseguests! I did post recently about an issue with Stella "sneezing" but I don't think we got any response. We switched back to pellets (from crumble) today, and I'm hoping that is it. How are you?

Teflon puts off fumes and is a killer.

This is true for pigeons also? is that correct? While hand raising one of the babies I survived on take-out. I was too scared to cook anything as I always use non-stick pans.

One or two birds would be fine in that cage as long as they had some time in a larger area for exercise on a regular basis. @cavemanrich posted a pic of a portable outdoor aviary in another thread. He would just take them there for exercise periods. I just can't find it quickly. If you decide on outside living you could create a loft attached to the duckhouse as long as the pigeons have their own enclosure/aviary.

Some cats are predatory towards birds and some are not. Do yours hunt?

Re Cats: Our cats only go out with us for supervised outdoor time (locally known as the evening catwalk). We don't allow them to hunt birds, but they sure look like they would like to hunt birds. Having said that, they've largely made their pimeace with the ducks, but the ducks are huge!

I may try to design the new duckhouse yo have a loft built in. We'll see. As is, I'm trying to give the pigeon at least an hour out a day, but I worry he is lonely. I think we'll set him up in my wife's studio where he will have both warmth and more company most days.

Also, what do pigeons like as treats? At present our Pigeon Pal loves corn kernels, which Pal eats out of my hand (and just starting hopping up into my lap to eat!).

Also, watch out for oven bags and the plastic crock pot liners, they can also put off fumes that can hurt / kill them
