!Pip's Failed Pip!
It all started when i asked a man if i cud incubate one of his duck eggs.....he said i cud and when a (call) duck had laid i took the egg and i started incubating it, and i candle the egg on day 17 and it was FERTILE! I was so happy! (i was planning to give the duckling when it was older to the man i got the egg from....)
Anyway....time went by.....i did LOADS of studying (obviously not enough) and...........on day 22 or something like that, i candled again to see if he was still alive and i wasn't sure.....but it was VERY black and dark inside......i was scared i admit.......and candled it on day 21 i candled again and the airsack was too small!!!! I had humidity on about 85% throughout THE INCUBATION!! I did not have a humidity meter!!!!
Any way a few days before i had ordered a humidity check....and THANK GOODNESS it came JUST in time for lockdown (call duck egg incubation takes 26 days).
Any way she started to pip on day 25...but me and my dad realised on hatching day that it hadn't pipped through membrane!! So my dad did loads of study and we CAREFULLY took some shell off (not touching membrane) and then when we saw no blood we proceeded to take the outer membrane off and then after we kept wetting it every half hour.......then after some praying and helping....she ended up like this........
then the only problem was she was wanting to get out (as you would) but she still had to absorb the last of her yolk and a bit of blood vessels. But she was struggling to get out so my dad had to put her in a little pot in the incubator lol! she looked so funny! Any way after that my dad made her a "diaper'.....
Any way she wasn't absorbing her yolk! So my dad decided its time for her to go in the brooder......
The minute she was held under the lamp her "umbilical" cord dried up so my dad decided to "snip"......
And here she is now!
