Hey ya'll! I love birds! Corvids are amazing! I'm actually reading a little book by Jean Craighead George about crows right now! I don't get many crows around here, and my record was 12 until a massive flock of 40 flew by last week! I'd love to feed them but they never stop by.

I am a firm supporter of eBird.org, which is an awesome website by the way, and keep track of the birds I see in my yard. You can obviously tell fall is here; Dark-eyed Juncos are appearing, Canada Geese are flying in Vs, Red-Winged Blackbirds and European Starlings and Ceded Waxwings are flying in flocks, American Robin's are migrating....etc.

Strange fact about Juncos. There used to be only the Oregon variety here (which are all I've seen), but according to eBird the Slate variety has now spread to my area too! Aren't birds awesome???

Recently I've been into drawing birds, though I haven't done any this week. A couple of my drawings:

(Barn Swallow, Evening Grosbeak, Killdeer, Oregon Dark-eyed Junko, Northern Flicker, Downy Woodpecker, Yellow Warbler, Black-capped Chickadee, Eurasian-collared Dove, Ruby-crowned Kinglet)

IMG_20201005_093839_kindlephoto-63568170.jpg
(Western Kingbird, Red-breasted Nuthatch, attempt at Chipping Sparrow, American Goldfinch, Common Warbler I think?)

IMG_20201005_211342_kindlephoto-63856371.jpg
(Black-billed Magpie, House Finch, Black-capped Chickadee)

I draw birds based off pictures. If you have a good-quality picture of a bird I could try to draw it, but I don't do backgrounds or sparrows (they don't turn out good) yet...

Anyways, I'm excited to have found this thread and chat with you!

I've heard of ebird before, and I have only used it once. Your bird drawings are very good and cute!

Welcome to this thread! :jumpy

Do you put up feeders in the winter? :)

Do you put up feeders in the winter? :)
Before I really got into birding I did a couple times with cheap feed. At the time I didn't know what they were, but the "cute little birds" (invasive House Sparrows) were the only ones who came.

In the summer I sometimes put out a hummingbird feeder to attract Black-chins. I also do this at my cabin and get Calliopes and a couple Black-chins, and hopefully I'll get some Rufous hummers next year.

The Lesser Goldfinches and maybe a few other finches had a blast with the sunflower plants this fall. Definitely a repeat!

This winter I plan to put out more expensive feed to attract chickadees and finches, and maybe some fruit for the resident robins.

I used to buy that cheap mixed seed.
Same thing, saw nothing but house sparrows and house finches. I learned that black oil sunflower seeds were the way to go.
Occasionally I'll get a thistle seed sock. but really the gold finch like the black oil sunflower just as good as the thistle seed.
