Know I've seen this before and think it was here, but searching did me no good,
and I can't remember what if any conclusion was reached.

This pic is from an acquaintance who got her eggs from another backyarder,
she messaged me this morn panicked they might be toxic.
She tossed them, no deviled eggs for their holiday table this year.

Anyone know what causes this?
Egg was boiled with vinegar.
Specks are on egg, membrane and between membrane and shell.

Thanks Y'all!
Looks like mold. Were they washed and put in a carton before they were completely dry? GC
Will ask that question, makes sense that spores could have seeped thru shell pores, especially if they used cooler than the egg water to wash.

Possibly, will ask that too, tho that was never really determined in that thread. They did eat the eggs and didn't get sick, tho not sure I would have eaten them.
One thing I really found interesting in that thread was this:
I am having the same on my eggs. Only black spots on the steamed eggs. If you crack them raw, never see any thing. We eat them, seem to be okay, taste good. Just not pretty

How long were they in the fridge before they were peeled?

They look like they were stored too long... but that is just a guess.
It's a good question.
What organism could survive boiling then flourish in the fridge tho?
Or maybe the organism moved thru egg pores after boiling and cooling while in the fridge?
Wonders if blood spots in egg before boiling got blown into smaller specks and turned black with cooking?

All speculation.<shrugs>
