Blue Double Laced Barnevelders - Does anyone have birds or pictures?

Eeekk, I just looked at the.prices for a day old chick. Who can afford to get started for almost a c note per chick.

Will it really be that much for some chicks, is there anyone else that has them?
That is sad. For that price they had better lay an egg that is covered in gold leaf. Find another string on barnies. Some one may have some they can part with. I had double laced barnies but they did not produce a dark brown egg. They did produce extra large eggs. I used them in an experiment- then sold them. They were carrying some kind of recessive melanizer because I produced some almost black adult offspring.

You could make some if you could find excellent double laced females. The hard part would be finding a compatible blue male breed. A blue rock would work very well. They have yellow legs and carry the correct genes for yellow legs. The E locus allele would be compatible with the E locus found in barnies. Other blue breeds would not work well because you would have to deal with leg color issues.

blue rock male x barnie females = F1 chicks sell females as egg layers and save two blue males

F1 blue male x barnie females = BC1 chicks this cross should produce some decent looking blue dbl laced females and some blue males

The next cross use a tested dbl laced barnie male x BC1 blue dbl laced females= some F1 with excellent lacing and good type

If the blue rock is silver ( and I believe they are silver) - you will produce some blue silver dbl laced ( silver feather with a dbl blue lace)and silver dbl laced males and females

The males will not be double laced- they may show some lacing n the breast

You will have to keep track of the males and the chicks they produce. You can look at a female and tell she has the correct genetics but you can not tell n the male. If a male produces superior females- he is carrying the correct genes and will pass them on to his sons.

If you cross two blue dbl laced birds- some will be splash laced.

wyandottes are not double laced they are single laced. They would work rose comb is dominant.

wyandotte x barnie = F1 birds some blue laced others not blue laced, you may get some single combed birds- use a male in the next breeding step

F1 blue laced male x barnie females = F2 some birds that you want

pick the best looking double blue laced F2 male with a single comb and backcross to the barnie females = BC1 birds you want

Usually the Wyandottes are single laced, but I picked up some culls that are double laced with evil intentions of crossing with a Barnie Male....
