So you say the bob cat will come back? I have one stuck in my chicken coop right now . It already killed and ate my duck and rooster. It's been in there 3 days and we haven't been able to open the door safely.Stay calm...if you don't have a vet or the money, to do so right now, start by taking a deep breath in and out. Calm yourself, you need to examine your rooster. Please know that you are going to do what you can for him. But it may not be enough. It's OK...
1. Are there any wounds bleeding? If yes, clean with peroxide or saline. Never use alcohol. Punctures are hard to treat, do your best.
2. Cover any wounds with Neosporin or spray with Vetricyn.
3. Wrap him in a clean towel to keep him warm tonight.
3. Place the rooster in a box or dog crate, in the house where he will feel protected.
4. He is in shock right now. Give him an hour or so to calm before trying to administer anything. He can aspirate if you try to give him liquids now.
5. Wait and observe. Hopefully he will open his eyes soon. He may not eat or drink till tomorrow. Offer him a tablespoon of meat or scrambled egg, diced grapes, cooked corn and or greens when you feed him tomorrow.
6. Keep the house quiet, but do talk in low tones to him.
He will have a good chance for survival if he makes it through the night.
Protect your hens. Hardware cloth and bolt all windows of the coop. Cover the pen with hardware cloth too. Bobcats will return, many times there are two that hunt together!
If you can take him to a Vet, do so.
God Bless, I will pray for your roo.![]()
