Do you have a Border Collie?

Looks more like a Big Black to me. ;) maybe Medium Black. :lau

;) Nope. The Small Black has a wide range of sizes, from 15 to 50 lbs, with most in the 20 to 35 range. They are easily identified by their smooth black coat, narrow face and white toes. Other white markings will vary and occasionally there is a coated specimen, but often dogs with heavier coats are actually identifiable crosses and should not be confused with the Small Black.

Temperment wise, Small Black Dogs are known for their high activity level and whip smart minds. Highly food motivated, they will nevertheless skip the treat if an adventure is on offer - like an open gate. They have high prey and play drives, so are often confused for herding breed crosses, although they are truly descended from a long line of rascals, rapscallions, con artists and thieves. But their charming manner and endearing loyalty assures they are readily forgiven and indeed, often defended, by their loving owners, no matter the mischief they get in. Small Blacks are masters of the head tilt and are often described as being "almost human" in their expression by those who share their homes and lives with them.

We had one border collie. She was wicked smart. She was obsessed with tennis balls, and herding cows, goats, ducks, whatever she could. We loved immensely. She was always going. Only stopping to cool off or take a break.

After we lost her I switched to Australian shepherds. Another wicked smart breed, but with an independent streak and a huge sense of humor. They also are Velcro dogs. They want to be with you. They need to be near you always. Wherever I go, they come too.

They like to try to make you laugh. They like to add their own flair to everything they do. They also enjoy taking it easy. They can leave the work at the door. Our border collie never could.

The downside to Aussies is the thick coat, and the bigger size. My current pup will hopefully be smaller and have less coat. That's the hope. :)
She sounds amazing!! But so do the Aussies!! Your dogs and description of them are honestly a big part of why I started leaning more that way but then recently I’ve been leaning BC again too but I really have no idea!!! Haha they both seem like amazing breeds!!!

All lovely, if very different breeds.

I have to say, calling a BC "a little intense" is like calling an Indy car "kind of fast". Both belong in professional hands, haha!

But having said that, I think you could handle one
Loving the process of training and providing mental stimulation is the most important thing. Although you do have to make sure to wear them out at least once a day. I mean like to where they come in and nap for a solid hour. But if you can give them what they need, they are awesome. Just be sure to follow through and DO things with her. Anything. Trick trainings great. Forget Cesar Milan (seriously. Like memory-wipe forget) and get some books on training dogs for the movies, set up some agility equipment and enjoy your BC.
Yeah, I’m a little nervous because of the differences and having only had experiences with retrievers but I do think I could handle one. :)

And hahah good point!! 😂🤣🙈

Good to know you think I could handle one too and thanks for all the info! Very helpful. :) they do seem like sensitive dogs!

I was nervous to get another Aussie, but I was nervous for no reason. My pup is a wonderful kid. She's mellow, and goofy, and wants to be loved. She's fearless, and happy. She perfect for us. :)
