Nope. The Small Black has a wide range of sizes, from 15 to 50 lbs, with most in the 20 to 35 range. They are easily identified by their smooth black coat, narrow face and white toes. Other white markings will vary and occasionally there is a coated specimen, but often dogs with heavier coats are actually identifiable crosses and should not be confused with the Small Black.Temperment wise, Small Black Dogs are known for their high activity level and whip smart minds. Highly food motivated, they will nevertheless skip the treat if an adventure is on offer - like an open gate. They have high prey and play drives, so are often confused for herding breed crosses, although they are truly descended from a long line of rascals, rapscallions, con artists and thieves. But their charming manner and endearing loyalty assures they are readily forgiven and indeed, often defended, by their loving owners, no matter the mischief they get in. Small Blacks are masters of the head tilt and are often described as being "almost human" in their expression by those who share their homes and lives with them.
