also, does anyone else's dog do this? Alfred is aggressive towards strangers who approach anyone in our family as he is very protective, but if we approach them, he's as calm and happy as can be. He does still wear a muzzle on walks for safety but he does have a "they're safe" command. (I got in the habit of saying that when people would come over so he learned that "They're safe" means he doesn't have to bark or anything

Mine runs and hides, but does come forward occasionally. None of mine were ever stranger aggressive but just wary sometimes.

The AKC description includes a boxer should be wary of strangers and protective, so it's quite normal. I have only had females, so perhaps males are a bit more forward,

oh interesting! Alfred is also intact so that probably has something to do with it

Brewster was intact at 4yo when we brought him home. He has since been neutered but he was never aggressive toward strangers.
We've only had one aggressive boxer and she was aggressive toward other dogs but not people.

Our newest baby is an olde english bulldogge. He has many of the same traits as our boxers but weighs much less. He is just fifty pounds. (That means there is just enough sofa space for mom.)
