Maybe bantams just crow earlier? And I have lots of older birds crowing as an example to the young ones.

Tim, I have noticed that the bantams tend to mature a bit faster than the large fowl. So, it could be that some bantams will crow sooner.

Fowl, I can't wait for my eggs! Whoop!

Tim, those birds are very nice! If I wanted bantam Brahmas, I think I'd know where to turn!

I'm pretty much a lurker on this thread, but I do so enjoy looking at the Brahmas. All Asiatics entice me!

Thanks everyone for the compliments. Thats okay Carole, I was not sure where that came from. Then I went back and saw that it was in the post before my first pic! I think I remember you from the old brahma club site. I just found this place a few days ago.
Yes, bantam brahmas mature much fastar than the standards RP.

Tim love the skull on the hen in the milk crate.

As far as crowing, my silver laced large fowl don't even think about it untill about 9-10 months old. My blue laced red project males mature earlier, but do not reach the finished size of the silvers, influence from their wyandotte blood.

Thanks BigM. I'm not quite there with my lights yet. Next spring I might try and put a light male on her, or one like her, to maybe get the wide skull on some light females.

I have Pure LF Light Brahmas 1 Roo and 3 hens
and 5 Barred Rock Hens in the same pen, so when hatching time started...... I gathered the eggs and placed them in the incubator...... in Feb hatched the first successful batch
I have 4 of the prettiest Light Brahma x Barred Rock Roosters, they are already as large as my Light Brahma Rooster (who is 1 year old)
Here they are after hatching 12 days old

Here they are at about 2 months moved to an indoor coop pen:

Here they are at 3.5 months old:

I have added 2 to my laying flock of 25 Black Sex link hens, the other 2 are in a pen of their own at the moment.
They already Crow and within a week of being in with the hens, the hens are showing signs of wear on their backs.

These are the first hatch in my breeding project....
I also have some pure LF Light Brahma that hatched later in Feb 2010, that have been added to my breeding flock, so far the young hens are not laying and the rooster is ignoring them, but they have been accepted into the flock.

Awesome, they look like barred brahmas! Looks like they inherited the pea comb and leg feathering.

Out of the 4 of them, they actually look silvery in the sunlight, and 1 of the 4 has less leg feathering than the other 3...
But I figured that adding them with the laying flock (since they are the first hatched here) was a good idea, as those are mainly Black sex link hens, they are already a mixed breed. RIR over Barred Rock hens, I could maybe get some large Barred Rocks in a few generations, but we will have to see,
what happens......

I could probably make Giant Barred Rocks, by breeding them back to the Pure Barred Rock hens.....lol

But I was actually trying to get to the Columbian rock, my first hatch was all roosters, not what I expected or needed....But I am happy to be able to continue.

I will get some photos later today of the other young Brahmas, and the breeder flock. There are several ages of Light Brahmas here as I have been setting eggs from the hens regularly.

I would imagine brahmas would do well in the Alaskan climate. They do well here in Texas, but the heat is harder on them than the cold. I've never lost a bird to cold, the heat has claimed a few.
