WCchicks Fluffy is indeed a pullet....Dark Brahmas are the easiest to tell the sex of as they feather out quite differently from the earliest stage.
Morgan7782, how old when you got your first egg? My Brahmas have all been positively geriatric and HUGE when they have laid their first egg... well over 26 weeks (more like 30....I lost count!)
One of my batches of 'chicks', and I use this word sparingly as they are massive birds are 23 weeks and show no sign or reddening up.....this was a hatch with NO roosters (how lucky was that?). They are ravenous, extremely healthy, shiny birds, but, like their mums, show no sign of wanting to mature until well over 6 months.
I've just had a change of dominance in my boys too. Darky....very large Dark Brahma aged about 15 months has been overtaken in size by Whitey (Red Pyle) who has the dimensions of a small turkey now with a huge breast. Folk who come to our house have started to ask...."What the bleep is THAT?". Fortunately he is a real sweetie with us, but commands respect from the chickens by insisting on feeding first etc. He positively thunders along when running. But he has a pathetic crow.....loud enough...but more 'cock-a-dooodle-aaaaarghrrrrrrrr than cock-a-doodle-do.
My Brahma hens don't lay a lot either....they're VERY broody bunch....but they're so lovely, I'd never be without them,
Sandie
