Sounds like that should work,( I will reread this in the morning when my brain is firing on all cylinders).Hi Gary I think I have figured out how to eradicate the VH, let me know what you think.
I will take the Buff laced hen that I have pair bred and know is carrying VH and put a silver laced cockerel that I am not sure of over her, if any VH offspring result he gets the Axe because he is a carrier, if his offspring show no VH he is clean, I will put him in a separate pen. Then I will take a cockerel that I know is a carrier and put him over an unsure of hen and do the same process and put her in a clean pen if she is clean or put another hen to test, I will do this with all the hens and cockerels until I have a pen full of clean birds and then proceed to breed clean birds. I believe most of the silvers I have came from a crossing of Big Silver with the Gold Laced hens, the one Silver hen I had went broody before I could put her in the pen with the Big Silver, raised chicks and then went broody 2 more times this summer, she was in the pen with the Big Buff Laced boy who we know has VH, I will test her again using this same procedure. I may get lucky with her. So what do you think of the plan?? It may take a couple of years or so, but I am sure I will do it.
