That's actually reasonable, I think  I don't think police are going to be driving around trying to find loose chickens so they can fine their owners. I think it'll probably be a case of if your chickens are on someone else's property, and they don't want them there, then they will call and report it. Hopefully they talk to you first, but if they do and you don't take steps to fix the issue, then it's definitely reasonable.

I love my birds, but I can totally see someone not wanting chicken poop all over their yard, or their gardens trashed and their hard work eaten, or their landscaping torn up by scratching chickens, etc. You could still free range, so long as your birds stay on your property, or your neighbors give you permission and don't mind the birds wandering onto their property. It's only an issue if your neighbor has asked you to keep your birds off their land and you don't want to respect that.

Unless it's going to be something like every chicken not in a run is an instant fine. That would be ridiculous if your birds are on your own property.

Sorry, off-topic I know.
What state?

Hi there,

My apologies if this is a redundant topic, but I have searched high and low for months now in an effort to track down some local people in the New England region, particularly NH, who are looking to sell/swap eggs/chicks.

I have been researching much of the winter looking at different breeds and farms etc, and went the commercial route last year out of simplicity, but was far more interested in looking for local birds in my home state of New Hampshire this go around, as we are owners of a small business and like supporting local whenever possible.

In searching this site, numerous google and facebook searches, it has proven difficult to find one or a few good resources for locating breeders in the region, despite making some great connections with operations outside of the region. This prompted me to throw out a post and see if anyone on here bites and would be willing to share local breeders, or post their own availability for birds in the region to help people like me looking for various breeds who are wanting to support the local farm or breeding program, or get a higher quality bird, or a bird raised more naturally as many smaller operations afford. I reached out individually in the New Hampshire thread and got a few bites, but I think it would be helpful to many if we could get as much cumulative information into a particular thread about this topic, in this region, if we can. Thanks for the help!

I know of a small farm in Barrington NH, however I only have a phone number. I’ll call this week and get more info. She had French black copper Marans that I was interested in this fall, but she didn’t want to sell them then because they were to small, and then with the holidays I never got back to her.

I'm in southern maine (I do ship too!)
I have
Ancona ducks
Call Ducks
Silkie Ducks
Muscovy Ducks
Sebastopol Geese

Im in Mass but I like to buy locally. Last year I bought chicks from Twin Cedar Farm in Acushnet, MA It cost more than hatchery but really nice chickens. Her RI Reds are gorgeous, deep mahagony color and big. I got a barred rock, cream legbar, FBCM from her. She also sells some gorgeous bantams. I think they also have olive eggers.
I also got some chicks last year from Shamrock Farm in Mendon, MA, lots of chicks, very reasonable prices. He had brahma, silver penciled rocks, buff rocks, cochin, welsummer, and many others, oh marans and amerucana too I think. He has a facebook page but I think doesnt have chicks until around April but I could be wrong. There is also the Hatching House in Canturbury, CT. Nice chicks a little more pricey. She has a website. Ive never gotten chicks from here but I might this year. She has some interesting rare chickens too. Also another place that has many breed but i have never purchased from is called Rock Yard Homestead, I think they are in southeastern MA. She is on facebook. She also does grow outs. Thats all I can think of off the top of my head and I would love to learn of more places around MA/CT/RI Thanks this a good thread.

Hi, I had a very successful hatch (under a hen on February 26th and in an incubator which hatched today) and have three more black Ameracauna chicks than I need. They are all strong, healthy and gorgeous. I'm in Haverhill. I have two more eggs I'm waiting on...not sure yet what color they are or if they'll hatch but they're due to hatch tomorrow.

Hi! I am in central Maine and I raise Easter Eggers, Black Australorps, and developing out for Silver and Black Ameraucana in the Future.
I will have hatching eggs once weather here starts staying warm enough during the day to not have damage to eggs. Also possibly will have chicks available for pick-up later on.
The Ameraucana;s won't be available this year but the EE and Australorps will be, I do have 3 EE roosters for sale at this time. 2 are not to standard Silver Ameraucana about 6 Months old. The other is a straight up EE.
My farm is listed at https://www.facebook.com/Usdi-Tskwa-Farm-276212072871507/
I can be reached through there or from here.
Thanks.
I'm kind of far for you but I have three black Ameraucana chicks left and available and two more late eggs in the incubator which remain a mystery until tomorrow.
