Breeds that you absolutely HATE

This! The puppy dogs of the chicken world are Turkens. I have 3 turken girls that are DOLLS! Fluffy, gentle, and the best layers. They follow me everywhere and are the first ones to settle down at my feet and nod off for a quick nap. LOVE them!

Oh and they were bred for having fewer feathers so they would be easier to clean during processing

As for what I don't like?.....any of the "evil" looking game breeds such as Asil, Shamo, etc...something about a chicken that walks nearly upright and gives you the evil staredown doesn't sit right with me

Then again I've never had one, so who knows.

Gosh those are my favorite. Such a "bird of prey" look to them, and so much power in that body!! They're gorgeous imo.

I think I need to see and "meet" one in person, the pictures I've seen of them are quite intimidating!

I haven't "owned them all"....so I could say I hated any one breed, but I do not like the LOOKS of

La Fleche - don't think I could stand the "chicken version" of Satan himself looking at me every day
Naked necks - for some reason the bare skin just doesn't do it for me

I guess the good thing is that God made so many different ones that we can all find something to LOVE. That's why there's "chocolate and vanilla"......

Y'all have a GREAT day!

There's truly a chicken breed for every taste! I also am rather creeped out by LaFleche, Scott. I thought perhaps if I saw a Turken in person, I'd change my mind about it's ugliness. I didn't. Maybe personality would have to win me over, but I'd have to be an "accidental Turken owner" like my friend Kate to see that, LOL.

Turkens used to freak me out too, but DH thought they were cool, so I got him 2 chicks. I have to say, they have won my heart. They are a month old now and are always the first ones to come to the cage door to see me and be petted.

I dislike Gold Pencilled Hamburgs...flighty and hardly ever laid. But now my Australorp/Silver Pencilled Hamburg, lays a huge white egg every day and is slightly more friendly.

I am also not fond of RIRs (or red chickens in general). I have one girl, can't get rid of her because she was part of my very first group of chickens. She is just a brat, not mean though. At treat time she will fly up and try to steal whatever is in my hand and eats twice what the others get. She is also noisy, always yelling about something.

Love my Welsummer, she is a sweetie, but I gave my Australorps away....dumb standoffish creatures.

I dislike Barred Rocks also. I try to keep at least one here though, for my DD since she likes them. I have had 4, they seem to have no personality at all and they don't really like to be touched. My parents had them when I was younger...I hated them then, bunch of mean spirited hellions!

I have yet to get an EE that is friendly, mine have all been standoffish, treat stealers. If they weren't so cool looking and didn't lay those pretty eggs, don't know if I would have any.

As for the chicken I would never own....Modern Games. Oh, and Shamos absolutely give me the creeps. I don't even want to see one, let alone have some!

Silkies are huggable little balls of fluff

them!

I'm not sure where you got your Wellies from but I'll bet they weren't purebred. I'll bet they were crossed with Partridge Penes or even full Partridge Penes, talk about a flighty bird. My experience with 50-60 Welsummers have all been great, they are my favorite breed. They are the only breed I don't look to see where the roosters are before entering their pen. I can also turn loose two month old pullets in the breeding pen and not worry about them, how many breed can you say that about?

I have to agree with you on the Silkies though. I'm not to fond of any of the small foofy birds.

I have to agree with Lensters on the welsummers, great birds calmest group I have. No need to watch my back for the roosters.

I dislike the necked neck chickens, that's just too freaky for me.

I hate peacocks. Loud, obnoxious, no practical use whatsoever.

I dislike guineas nearly as much. Loud and stupid, but at least in flocks have some limited practical value.

Showgirls are the most godawful ugly chicken I've ever seen. Turkens are almost as bad.

Polish, Sultans, and any other crested breeds that are so poofy as to render themselves blind.

Put frizzles on here as well.

I'd put Silkies on this list but for the fact they are the Kinder Major's chosen breed for showing so I spend a considerable amount of time with them. They're a goofy breed but they do eventually grow on you and they'll hatch a stone when they're in the mood.

I strongly prefer working birds. Yard art is a waste of feed.

.....Alan.
