Buff is Broody Thread!

Day 29
Update 8:

Still no hatches....and what I have seen of the eggs no external pips. Mom won't really let me see the eggs. When I went in there this morning she bit and ran at me so I just decided to let her be. She won't eat but several peaces of cat food. I am also just jumping to conclusions and thinking they are rotten. How would I know if they were? Mama would have thrown them out if they were right? I am feeling worried but know mama knows what is going on and I will just have to wait and see. She has gotten way more protective so maybe she knows they are starting to hatch and doesn't want me out there.:idunno

Well ducklings don't have a calendar inside those eggs so they don't go by a date. lol If they were mine though I'd have to candle and smell at least by tomorrow. She'll get over being upset.

I have been talking with some people and they think one of the eggs might be dead(it has a crack in it tho). I will give the eggs till monday and wait to see what happens. Here is the pic of the egg we think is dead and that has a crack in it:

Usually once hatching begins they don’t get up do you have food and water close enough she can help her self and not get up? Might have some internal pips and she can hear the ducklings but if there are internal pups and you listen you can hear the ducklings.

I think all are infertile cuz in the last 2 days 2 eggs have cracked and left a nasty muck mess. There are 3 eggs left and we will see what happens. I opened the coop so that the other ducks could see her. She is tons happy now and is finally eating and drinking. We will see what happens with the other eggs but I feel that they too will be leaving a nasty mess for me to clean soon. I didn't expect a hatch tho considering it being so late in the season so we will see how this turn out. Good thing to think about tho is I have next year!

Anything happening?
Thanks for asking but no.:hmm None of the eggs hatch and we figured out none were fertile. :( It was sad but know we know letting a duck go broody in off season is not that good idea. Although I am not able to say the ducklings arrived I can say I learned that Buff ducks CAN go broody and that we have a bigger chance for the spring season. Thanks for all of you guy who have helped me! :hugs
