Bugs & Problems With The New Platform

Yes, definitely try a browser update/different browser. I'm on an old Intel P4 3.2, 4GB mem, WinXP SP3, 1.5Mb DSL, latest and greatest Chrome Clone (Comodo Dragon). I have all the ads turned on and, this is page loading (uncached) a few minutes ago. The network latency is higher than normal but the loading time is about average (low of 2sec/high of 8sec - about 3.70 in this instance - discounting latency). Not doing any filtering by proxy, at the moment. Some third party stuff might continue to show up, but I've not really had that hit navigation of main load. A lot of different variables can effect speed. I've been on much faster, and much slower loading forums (overall - after accounting for tracert/ping, etc.- something cludging the `tubes').

I am new here, but will say this site is very slow loading on my machine. Running Firefox 3.6 on a non-Intel Mac (OS 10.5.8). 6 Meg DSL connection.

The delay in loading every page seems to be related to the ads and other "add-on" content.
It takes forever to load content from "delivery.huddler.com", "google analytics" and others. Even after a page is fully loaded, scrolling is sluggish. The "Featured Sponsors" images take over a minute to load. When navigating from one page to the next, it starts all over again, which seems redundant. I am not running any ad or popup blockers.

Definitely start by updating your browser software. Current release of Firefox for Mac is version 10.0.2. Good Luck!

I am running the newest version that will run on this hardware/OS.

Huh. That's interesting. Firefox 3.6 is the highest release level your system will run? Your OS version (10.5.8) is fairly current & whether you're running an Intel based processor or not shouldn't make that big of a difference when it comes to web browsers. I'm not much of a Mac person so it's a little out of my territory. You might try your luck with a different web browser like Safari or Opera to see if you get better results.

The newer Firefox versions require an Intel processor. As does Safari. I will try some other browsers to see if there is any improvement in functionality.

At work, I support about 1500 workstations, both Mac and Windows-based. Browser compatibility is becoming quite an issue as developers focus on the "latest and greatest" in terms of interactive content and intelligent ad delivery. But that is a discussion best suited elsewhere.

I wouldn't be blaming the PPC machine too fast. I have been on this forum since day one of the sandbox with my old laptop. Power PC 1.67 ghz OSX 10.4.11 Are you running an older linksys router by some chance? If its not been updated that could very well be your bottleneck. Same goes for any router out there really. Just like your computer you need to update their software periodically. That was one of the biggest issues to performance I had with this forum.

The router is a 2Wire, I am on the third one in about four years. It says the software is current.

Are you having same problem with other devices on LAN?
Java enabled and running?

You can take a close look at the site (choose nearest server) from here: http://www.webpagetest.org/

I've only had issues with the site waiting for their third parties to respond to requests (the joys of `dynamism'), but never more than 10 seconds and that only happened when they were futzing around with something on the site (caught `em at it).

I have been having problems with the post that I typed disappearing, if I visit another webpage and hit the back button.

I type a long post and then it is gone because my mouse has a fancy button on it that moves me to another page when I press it accidently.

(before hitting submit)
