Thanks so much! I’ve never dealt with this before so i really have no idea what i’m looking at or doing. I just want her well.

Oh, uuhhh... how much epsom salt water does she have to drink to get the laxative effect? It was half a cup mixed with a gallon of water. I did my best to hold her up but she kept managing to take sips.

Use a bucket and stick both feet in its easier. Then hold onto her while she soaks I have even wrapped a towel around their necks that way they are able to have a comfy pillow while soaking . Then you have your towel for drying the feet and legs.

I got the girl unwrapped and this was her foot (ignore the green, that’s the drawing salve):

I didnt have a very good helper so we just wiped off her foot and sprayed with the Vetericyn and let her crawl back into her nest. She was wearing the wrap since Friday so i figured it’s fine to let her air out her foot overnight.

So tomorrow, i assume i wrap her with the antibiotic cream so the scab softens and comes off?

Yes you might have to peel that scab off yourself but it’s come a long way. Is she sitting on fertile eggs?

After it comes off i gotta root around inside her foot for the gunk, right?

I’ve not checked the eggs to know. The girls all live with their Runner boyfriend but i dunno how long a girl can lay fertile eggs after being removed. I dont expect her to hatch out any ducklings, but sitting on the nest is keeping her outa the water bowl and her wraps dry.

Hopefully you can get it out with out a lot of digging. And sometimes the plug will come out with the scab. Before you start have a pair of sterile tweezers I use them to get the bumble out an it works good. Wrap her in a towel and point her butt away from you.

Hi, just wondering how you got on with your duck? Mine has had similar issues with swelling. On one foot I can see the scab but the one that’s swollen the most has no scab at all. Just wondering if you had to go to a vets and when to be most worried? Thanks!

Mine presented with out a scab. I ended up taking mine to the vet she got an antibiotic and meloxicam for pain an after 7 days I used a scalpel to open it and get out the infection.

On Saturday night her scab was protruding a bit but wasnt soft enough to take off, so i left her wrapped with the antibiotic cream to soften. I figured today is the day. Got my good helper, gave her an epsom soak, and flipped her over:

Her scab is gone! And the skin underneath is noticeably healed over so i cant dig anything out. Now what do i do? I feel like i missed the window here to finally get her taken care of.

Does it still feel hard like there is a core in it?
